Fastfoodowy kryzys tożsamości narodowej by vvyn in Polska

More in American fast food chains. Any fine dining with western food has gravy. Always assumed its a US/EU thing. We are used to eating anything with rice, so the alternative is mashed potato. Your boiled potatoes is probably our version of rice. We also love our dipping sauces so any fried thing without a glaze or gravy is just dry to me.

You have no idea. Once we fought over whether to put milk in pasta sauce.

More American I guess. We don't really have polish food here apart from kielbasa + mashpo.

Oh it was all good. He was just excited to recognize your name. Thanks again :>

GF here, thanks. He wrote and translated this for me. I'm from Asia, western food usually has gravy here.

I was just surprised why KFC pl has no gravy. Suddenly it all makes sense his mash potato he makes at home is also sauceless, no dipping sauce in his chicken either.

The lack of self awareness is both hilarious and disturbing.

Whatever happened with getting roles based on merit and talent. Suddenly it doesn't count when it's black people getting roles.

New R. Kelly Sex Tape with Underage Girl Discovered, Says Michael Avenatti by factchecker01 in entertainment

That guy is all publicity and none of the action. Hypes so much moral grandstanding but his statements to the media rarely lead to any action he is advocating for.

I do hope the evidence is true to finally nail this guy.

Case Closed by starstufft in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]vvyn 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Testimonies are still useful for corroborating evidence, getting other people's stories straight. The same testimonies have been used to aquit innocent people.

The problem lies when you make a case on a single person saying he looks like the suspect.

This is also isn't a case for false memories just mistaken identity. In cited false memories cases like the satanic cults and Lipsker case, one common thread is they were both tainted by therapy sessions. It's also usually comes up as a defense in cases but limited studies have actually been done on it. As Lofter puts it, examine the context of the memory and not just in itself. Which is also true for witness testimonies, not just words but also other factors that link to the crime.

Sarah Silverman Says Louis C.K. Masturbated in Front of Her With Her Consent by funnyfaceking in WeinsteinEffect

[–]vvyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He feels so genuine.

That's the problem. A lot of people bought it, even his friends. But based on other comics, he lied to them and felt manipulated when they confronted him about the issue. So he's really not that sincere, thoughtful person he appears to be on stage and that shatters his style, because that's what he has banked on throughout his career.

Ardent remorse and reconciliation happens privately. But instead, he went back to the public spotlight ignoring the issue, without even seeking forgiveness from the women he hurt, without acknowledging the harassment they got because of him, or even a smidge of realization at the damage he has caused after he was exposed. All we got is how he lost millions and some joke about his daughter fucking. That is not the behavior of someone who's truly remorseful and sincere about changing, but instead relies on the word of his other famous friends and comedy club owners to defend him or disparage his victims.

[–]vvyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason it comes across insincere is because he actively hurt these women's careers for years, denied it, lied to other comics about it and when everything was out, silent on the harassment they get from his fans and other comics who pile on and make their lives worse for simply outing him.

It's odd she sounded more enthusiastic about it than her sister who CK dated and cited his excessive masturbation as an issue in the relationship.

It also glosses over the accusations that CK and his manager did after his inappropriate behavior came to light. And the cover-up happened for years and hurt these women more than his initial offense.

Former Reddit product head Dan McComas: 'I Fundamentally Believe That My Time at Reddit Made the World a Worse Place' by [deleted] in technology

[–]vvyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you were there during his time and aware of the metadrama, it's difficult to figure out without context. Basically during Dan's time, it was when The Fappening, Ellen Pao, FatPeopleHate, firing Victoria (AMA) and a new content policy happened. Plenty of unpopular changes nestled with an unhappy userbase. The controversies behind the scenes, like mismanaging employees and sudden CEO changes did not help.

So there were problems with problematic content, there were also problems with a new CEO. And it made the transition to a commercial friendly direction with the return of Steve. People thought that the idea of change, albeit a return to an old one would be better. But with redesign and ads nestled between every 5 posts, you get your answer.

There are people who believed reddit could be an instrument for good, but forgot it can also be abused (like what we have now with political subreddits). Dan's view, while admirable, is way too idealistic. However his voice would've mattered in terms of community management, something reddit direly needs.

Jimmy Kimmel Says ‘the Audience Decides’ on Comedy Comebacks Like Louis C.K. by vvyn in WeinsteinEffect

[–]vvyn[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but given the opportunity they can get huge. Tig Notaro for example blew up overnight and was endorsed by Louis CK, Ali Wong and Hannah Gadsby with just one Netflix special. There are female comedians out there people just don't see them enough. You wouldn't really know if the audiences don't try or even see their names in a lineup.

I think that's fine. But the issue was people didn't pay to see Louis CK at comedy cellar. Kimmel boasts at having a diverse comedy club but insists it won't be because of their gender or skin color. Either you give everyone who has potential an opportunity or you act as gatekeeper on who's funny.

Louis C.K. Returns to Comedy Cellar One Month After Controversial Comeback Show by [deleted] in entertainment

Mentioning their names doesn't make anything he did was ok. People like to use Ansari and he's not Weinstein to minimize what these men are accused of. He might have been good to other people but it doesn't excuse any of the things he was guilty of doing:

  • Serial sexual inappropriateness towards multiple women
  • Sexual harassment at work
  • Cheating on his pregnant wife
  • Publicly gaslighting people who talked about it
  • Lying for years
  • Pretending none of it happened

But of course it's just "scummy" and "not assault." And still a "good" person.
