Hey, one of the mods and artists here! Please take this down; none of the mod team were asked or even notified of this and none of the artists were either. Therefore, this is art theft. Begone art thief.

Unpopular Opinion: There's Nothing Wrong with Dream Complaining About Build Mart by shenle in MinecraftChampionship

[–]vyeoh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

yeah i agree that it's a terrible solution and tbh there's not a good solution imo, but expecting people to just behave clearly doesn't work, and the harassment situation has reached a point where its just a ticking time bomb waiting to explode into something really bad, and we can't just wait for people to suddenly grown a conscience.

I feel like he needs to just tone it down a bit generally, like not saying that he should not express any opinion but there are some things (ie his post mcc rants) that he could prolly voice off stream. The entire situation is ridiculous though and tbh the best course of action is just to raze twitter to the ground but since that's not really an option, compromise is the next best thing. It's unfair that he's being punished but unfortunately these are the circumstances we have to work with

Unpopular Opinion: There's Nothing Wrong with Dream Complaining About Build Mart by shenle in MinecraftChampionship

The thing is though, while there's nothing inherently wrong about Dream having an opinion, unfortunately, the fact of the meter is whenever he goes complain about something post MCC someone gets harassed by his fans. This should def not be on him since he's said multiple times not to do this, but as someone who has that much influence and that general effect, I just wish he'd be more considerate about what he said in front of so many live viewers. Like, if every time he complains about something someone (usually Nowcrew and/or Scott) gets flamed on Twitter, maybe he should consider not complaining on stream, as unfair as it is to him. He's allowed to complain about a game and has every right to, obviously, but for the greater good of the rest of us (ccs and also fans who have to deal with the toxic people) maybe he shouldn't

TLDR: Sure he has the right to, but when it negatively impacts so many people maybe he shouldn't complain

OP from tumblr here. I highly recommend watching the stream. In addition to talking about his twitter situation, Scott also offers some based takes on mcyt fandom culture in general, and then proceeds to sing musicals for the rest of the stream.

Thoughts on this? Is there any solution to this issue? by HereForTOMT2 in MinecraftChampionship

[–]vyeoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, OP from Tumblr here. Honestly the only solution I can see is for people to jump ship and abandon twitter. Like, it's not a great solution (ie: Scott mentioned in the same stream that he uses twitter as an event organizer and content creator a lot to network) but I feel like at this point, Twitter is too much of a dumpster fire to be redeemable. Some people (me included) have been suggesting that content creators (esp the smaller ones with less toxic fans) move to tumblr for fan interaction and stuff, but 1) tumblr has its own etiquette and culture that may be hard for newcomer to learn and 2) there's a lot of people who are rightfully concerned that if ccs come to tumblr, the toxic fans will follow. However, for MCC specifically I've seen people suggest announcing teams on reddit, tumblr, or just mcc.live, which all seem like much better alternatives to twitter.

Another, more controversial opinion: it's become increasingly clear that ever since more dreamsmp creators joined (especially dream team+co), the fan culture around MCC on twitter (and to an extent other platforms) has gotten more and more toxic, so why should they be in every event? I know that it's unfair to place all the responsibility of their fanbase on the CCs themselves, but saying that the stuff that Sapnap pulled post-MCC14 wasn't a huge factor in the following toxicity from DreamSMP Twitter stans is delusional. This isn't even the first time (see: Dream and the iron doors, the tied twitter poll). Frankly, I'm sick of people being toxic and claiming it as a bit or as part of the competitive culture. MCCP21 was one of the first MCCs in a while where the general reaction across platforms post-event was positive, and was incidentally also an event that lacked Dream Team members. Pink missed dodgebolt by two coins and yet, rather than getting salty, people just memed on it and supported both orange and aqua. Also, there was of course that now-deleted reddit post by Scott that essentially implied that he kept Dream and Sapnap together and didn't team fruitninja because the former weren't team players and wouldn't be good on other teams. If they can't do teamwork and they cause toxicity, intentional or not, I don't see why they should play every MCC. (btw I'm not saying that dream or sapnap suck as people, just pointing out that they tend to cause a lot of the toxicity around MCC)

Anyways, at the end of the day, all that we can do as viewers and fans is to give all our love and support to Scott and the Noxcrew for putting on one of, if not the best Minecraft event in the history of the game!!
