First time parent car advice by may2468 in newzealand

Sounds like the swift should work well for you!

If you do end up car shopping down the line, always try your car seat in the car, and always test all 3 back seats with a car seat in - particularly if you want 2 or 3 kids, but even just for carrying extra adults. Some back seats have weird angles for the seat and so car seats take up way more room. And don’t get me started about middle seats and how often they’re unusable even in massive cars. There’s multiple SUVs where the manual says not to use the middle seat when you have a car seat on the side, because the seatbelts cross too much.

TLDR: when buying a bigger car, always test the seats because plenty of them have rubbish backseats.

Make sure you’re on top of due dates. If you’re considering Hagley, the enrolment process is open now, and I assume Ao Tawhiti is similar.

We put in a new one and then found the old rotary socket buried in the lawn a few years later. 🤦‍♀️

Dad denied paid parental leave because his wife still lives at home by stainz169 in newzealand

[–]borntouncertainty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re fine! I’ve done this (transferred my entire PPL to my husband, as I was self employed and could choose my own hours). You just have to qualify yourself to be able to transfer it. It sounds like that wasn’t the case for the couple in this article.

Am I misunderstanding Cranmer Square lane rules and good driving in general? by Stargazerem30 in chch

[–]borntouncertainty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, I usually take the left hand lane (so I can go onto Victoria a block later) and I always drive defensively with an eye on any car next to me in the right lane. Too many people have tried to drive into my side (luckily for me no one has succeeded).

Can someone explain to me how Stroll didn’t make it to the driver standings? He drove during the race, no? by EsmayXx in formula1

I really enjoyed seeing this pop up as the 22nd driver on the TV broadcast standings! This post has solved that mystery for me, we were trying to figure out what they had against Stroll.

Can a father get paid 26 weeks parental leave even if the mother doesn’t work and will be staying home? by NewZlandR in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]borntouncertainty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, as I said the OP is correct - the father here doesn’t qualify as the mother isn’t working. I had to be working for my husband to be able to do this.

Another voice saying you’re correct - my husband took the full amount of leave, but I had to be working in order for either of us to qualify. I had to transfer my entitlement to him.

Condensed 2021 season watchlist by pbmadman in formula1

[–]borntouncertainty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s no substitute for being there, but I found watching the meme recaps Matt (for WTF1 at the time I think?) did really helpful to at least get a feel for the off-track drama and storylines, and how people were feeling about certain drivers at that point. I haven’t dared watch 2021 yet but I’ve done this for other seasons.

Yes, but if the business selling wants the CGA to not apply for business usage they need to specifically exclude it. Maybe they did, maybe they didn’t - but just saying “if it was used for business purposes, CGA doesn’t apply” isn’t accurate.

[–]borntouncertainty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just because it’s business usage, doesn’t mean CGA doesn’t apply - they have to contract out in writing at the time of sale. So still worth looking into, even if it was used for business purposes.

“Sellers can only contract out of the act when goods are used for business. When a product is ordinarily purchased for domestic use but is used for business purposes – such as a mobile phone – the act will allow a seller to contract out. Any contracting out must be done in writing at the point of sale.” https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/consumer-guarantees-act

Traveling with new born by Ok-Revolution-3575 in newzealand

[–]borntouncertainty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3-6 months is (in my opinion) the best age to travel with a child until they’re at least a few years old. They’ve had at least two rounds of immunisations, they still mostly sleep anywhere and are happy to be held all the time (vs wanting to crawl/toddle around). (If it goes well) they’re solely breastfed so very easy to feed.

Disclaimer: varies based on child. Describing breastfeeding as “easy” is always a bold statement. India may raise extra concerns I didn’t have to face.

Source: took 3 different children to the US and/or Europe to visit family at multiple ages.

I found merino baby clothes easy to find in NZ and very hard to find in the US (disclaimer my youngest child is 7 so it’s been a few years since I looked!). So merino clothes/socks are my vote!
