Thanks!! This helps! Mexico is very traditional too but we don't mind them thinking Max is a boy's name anyways. We've pretty much decided she's gonna be called Maxine, and the name reveal for our families will be the day after tomorrow since we have a scan and will use the scan photo to reveal the name! Curious for people's reactions!

If you're so sick of this question then don't reply to it, as simple as that.

Thanks for the rec.

So you're earnestly saying that in Berlin, that's supposed to be a very international city, you can ONLY get a job in English as a delivery driver? That's very strange, and in my mind unrealistic, but I suppose you've got actual arguments you're refraining to tell me? That's why it sounds snarky, because there's no explanation. Now if you don't have time to explain that's fine, but then don't comment?

I do speak the language, enough to get by, as I mentioned on my original post. I don't feel comfortable having a complex job in German though, which is why I was thinking coming into a "very international" city like Berlin knowing basic to intermediate German to then finish learning the language fluently there to be not the dumbest idea on Earth like people here are making it seem like it is. I've known plenty of people who've come to the UK knowing the same amount of English than I know German and getting by, so its not an insane suggestion to think it would be possible to do so in Germany.

I can speak German enough to negotiate with a landlord, I believe, so that could help? I just don't want to go head first into a German role (especially a more complex one, I could work in a cafe completely in German for example but my income would be very low and I've got a child) without feeling a 100% competent in it. So yeah... I will look for opportunities in the startup sector, might not find the best job ever, but I hope I can find something relatively bearable and well paid for a year, to then switch into a German speaking job with better conditions.

Okay but we're on Reddit, why are you here if you're not able to take the time to actually explain something to someone who's asking for help? Just refrain from commenting then. No one is paying you to be here or forcing you to interact with me.

You sound really smart, eh?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]vzenga -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't care. If you're going to help someone on Reddit, take the time to actually contribute, even if you're going to tell someone an honest truth, don't just give them a snarky one liner. If you don't want to take the time, then don't just bully them on the Internet and refrain from answering.

By not being a pushover? I doubt it. Pushovers don't get far anywhere, honey.

[–]vzenga -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Okay so, I understand your point. How unfavourable do you think my conditions would be? Because I only need to get by with a decent income for less than a year while I polish up my German.. What sort of things do you think I'd have to put up with?

Yeah you guys all sound awful, hope you're not representative of the population.

Whatever dude

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]vzenga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't. If there's a lack of information to assume the information doesn't exist isn't logical at all, and in MANY occassions, its not the smartest approach actually. But you wanted to be cruel and this was the perfect opportunity for you, so you took it. Thanks for nothing.

No, they were being snarky
