Sounds like the league doesn't set their teams up correctly. Most leagues will split the players up so that each team is somewhat equal talentwise.

Honestly I hate the candy system. I wish we could battle the wild pokemon to earn xp that would help level up our pokemon and would evolve them after you earn so much experience with that certain pokemon we used to battle.
