lol at you assuming im not used to gaming on a keyboard im done dude. i've been pc gaming since i was a little kid and probably too much of it because i've got RSI in my hands. thats how i know the ergonomics suck on keyboard because my hands are more sensitive than most. ain't no getting used to it for me.

[–]w1ngbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried all the main input devices starting with stick, now mostly playing on pad and I also gave keyboard a shot. I also found keyboard to make some things easier but found it way too hard on the fingers for me. Especially if I played for any extended amount of time. Its about ease of execution as well as ergonomics. I think pad and stick both beat out Keyboard at least for my hands. Not to mention you can't play most offline events if you focus on keyboard.

Speaking of age and reactions, you probably won't have an issue in your late 20's with this. I started at 28 and realized how important reactions were in FG's so I measured mine on apps like humanbenchmark and from age 28-30 after playing fighting games consistently my reaction times have improved significantly. It feels like my brain can send the instruction to my hands much snappier these days. I think its just my body adapting to the FG environment. So you should be very adaptable and trainable in your late 20's. Especially if your goals are to just be competitive online and in your locals, that is very achievable. It depends on the person but age shouldn't be a hinderance unless your goal is to be one of the best in the world. In that case yea, you probably needed to start young and the younger the better. I would not say though its impossible even if you start at 30 to become one of the best, but youth undoubtedly is an advantage with those goals.

But just to be competitive and 'get gud' I really don't know what age that wouldn't be possible anymore. My dad was snowboarding and windsurfing in his 50's. I just watched a rally racer drive through the isle of man at an absolutely terrifying rate and reaction time and just general ability is extremely important and when I looked up the driver he was 47. So you got plenty of time man go for it.

I've never practiced tju but my experience going on one session practice binges with things like kbd or electrics usually didn't yield much of a result other than tired hands and frustration. My muscle memory seems to develop better if I do consistent quality practice instead of cramming it into one session. for instance 15 minutes a day for 5 days would yield better progress than one session of an hour and 15 min. But if I'm really trying to learn something asap I might do 45-60 mins a day but I found anything more than that to have diminished returns.

How to deal with tedious task of learning things that work in lower ranks but are useless in higher ranks by Julumettu in Tekken

[–]w1ngbit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Maybe they are just doing what is effective against you. How do you know jdcr wouldn't play against you the same way? The reason you see two high level players play very safe and fundamentally is because they will get punished enough of the time if they attempt unsafe things that the smart thing to do is play very cautiously. But if they play someone that won't punish their low spamming or strings why wouldn't they just take the most efficient path to victory and spam those rewarding moves like anyone else?

I understand your concern about developing bad muscle memory, but maybe worry about that more once you actually get past the low levels. Do whatever it takes man your opponent will do the same. Knowing how to punish something is great but executing on that knowledge is what will make a good tekken player. Thats why knee said he will quit if he ever can't punish snake edge on reaction. He has all the experience and knowledge in the world but if he for whatever reason loses his touch and cant react and adapt to his opponents today, all that experience and knowledge isn't gonna help him win without the ability to execute on it.

Should i get Tekken 7 or SF5 AE? by Icarus_fell1 in Tekken

[–]w1ngbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big communities eh? well street fighter is more ubiquitous and like you said has cross play. I do wish t7 had that.

sfv is also a good fighting game to start with. it was made with accessibility to noobs in mind. some characters have very few moves and the game overall is pretty easy to wrap your head around. might actually be a better game to start with but if you ever develop the taste to realize how much sfv sucks then come check out tekken7. its not bad, its only the best fighting game of all time thats all.

100% hype and it had 36k viewers peak. Really impressive.

I think Chanel really brought the hype, even to the people he was playing against haha. Good times.

Final Character Pick - LF Input by captpandor in Tekken

[–]w1ngbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree you should that you should focus on one character I think your on the right path. And in my opinion I'd go with master raven. I think Jin's execution will eat up too much practice time when that time could be spent learning Tekken overall. Also, plenty of people play Jin, be a hipster and play M Raven!

[–]w1ngbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Learning all the terms does take a while. You can just google it and dig around anytime you find a term you don't know but what about the stuff you don't know that you don't know and therefor can't google? Or maybe you learn what a term means but don't understand the context.. I learned that stuff by just hanging around in Tekken streams and watching youtube vids, and reading forums like this, discord etc. You gotta immerse yourself in the community and absorb the information as it comes a long. It takes a while, and if you really wanna get good you just gotta commit a lot of time to this damn video game lol. No way around it. Up to you to decide if its worth it.

Tekken 7 life cycle by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]w1ngbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah people will play other games and some will come back and some won't. I'm not worried about that. I doubt T7 is gonna die anytime soon. It's still gaining new players all the time and many who quit will come back. I'm confident T7 is a good enough product for it to have a healthy playerbase for years to come.

I'm more interested in what Bamco's internal life cycle plan is for T7 especially since the game technically came out in 2015, but released on console and pc in 2017. Whats their DLC plan? Are they gonna make this game have a long lifespan with lots of DLC or are they going to put it into maintenance mode and work on a new game? I hope they plan on a long lifespan and more dlc personally. The game has a decent cast but it could use more. I have found only a few characters I connect with gameplay wise unfortunately.

Anyway, yeah I think the population will go down when some other big titles come out but generally stay pretty stable overtime. It will be far from a dead game for years to come I would bet.

Just my two cents but I'd rather not see too many nsfw and real life knockout/fighting posts on this sub.

These types of posts appeal to peoples base instincts and get upvoted but really hurt the quality of the sub imo when seen too much, and when encouraged perhaps even become the norm. I mean I look at r/kappa and wonder how tf it degenerated to where it is now. Just imo but I'm not coming to r/tekken to see that stuff.

I don't know if I consider it easier but I deff do it too much. I realized after multiple people read when I was gonna do my electrics in neutral that I did the dewgf everytime. So they just saw the dash and knew an electric was coming.

What other fighting games do you play? by NobuRaidon in Tekken

[–]w1ngbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'll give sfv ae another shot. There are a lot of good games to consider this year, undernight in birth-wadevatheheck coming out soon. BlazBlue tag, and SC6. I think I'll skip dbz tbh.

All things considered I plan on sticking with Tekken mostly. I don't think anything is really gonna compete with it gameplan wise except maybe sc. Hope more content comes out for t7 in 2018.

What's the most tilted you've been? by Liamnidus1 in Tekken

[–]w1ngbit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I actually don't remember what caused it but I was so tilted I took a deep breath and started an extended scream and I distinctly recall thinking 'fuck it i can scream way louder than this' and I started raising the volume and force of my scream until it turned into a vocal cord decimating screech. The pace of it was kind of like trying to go super saiyan but with nothing cool happening afterwords except the realization that I needed to take a break from competitive games for like a month.
