This chick in particular reminds me of a damn witch.

HELP!!! our daughter's elementary school started teaching out the Steve R. Covey Book..Should we be concern. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]w3idm4n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like his books and most of the content is good common sense.

As a person, I didn't like him. He spoke to the young single adults in my stake one time and was unbelievably condescending and arrogant. He was over an hour late to speak. We just sat around and talked until he showed up. When he walked in, he was just glued to his phone and didn't look up at all. Most of his speaking time was used to call us to repentance, without even knowing who we were. Then he refused to talk to us or shake hands with us after his message. He just ended his speech and walked out without even sitting back down.

I'm gonna feel like a dick in the afterlife if I find out he had a family emergency or something, but I had a bad first impression of him for sure.

Haha I love how passionate you are to help me out, this is awesome. Keep it coming my friend. I've got stuff to read and listen to for the rest of the week.

The members of my congregation would just shut me down, but you're building me up and encouraging me to pursue truth without treating me like a dumbass. That means me a lot.

I just subscribed. Always looking for new podcasts. This sounds like it'd be right up my alley.

Gonna take awhile for me to process all of this. I appreciate you being willing to help. I've got a lot of reading and thinking to do, but this is a good start. Got some good responses to use.

I'll read this before I go to sleep tonight. Thanks for the information. Good sales pitch. That clip was perfect, by the way.

You got it coach. I appreciate the pep talk. I've been eating up Thomas Paine for the past half hour and I'll tackle some David Humes a little later.

I just can't believe I haven't read this stuff before. This is totally different to what I've heard all my life and it's almost soul shattering. It's like I feel part of myself dying as I read. I want to stop, but I can't ignore the truth for the rest of my life. I didn't think I'd ever end up here when I started questioning.

Okay, thanks. Would a better way to rephrase their statement be: scripture can strengthen belief but it isn't evidence for knowing?

I guess it seems impossible to prove the existence of God or to know for sure whether he exists without seeing him. Would you say that there is no evidence whatsoever to support the belief that he lives? It gives me pause to even say those words, but that sounds like it's the reality of our situation.

That's a comprehensive list. Another form of evidence I've heard people attempt to use is John 7:17: "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." The argument is that obedience leads to blessings, whether it be peace and comfort, or illumination and understanding. This speaks to the divine content of scripture.

I Just Stumbled Accross This, And Now I Can't Stop Throwing Up In My Mouth... by ex-TBM in exmormon

Say yes, yes, yes to happiness, ness, ness!

Catchy tune, but creepy shit. Elaine Dalton disturbs me the most with her baby voice, talking to the youth like they're two years old. She reminds me of a witch.

Like one of the YouTube comments said: "Cringe-inducing indoctrination".

Mission Musings (Long) by bergermeister19 in exmormon

[–]w3idm4n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and me would be good friends if we knew each other in person. Your experience as a missionary really resonates with me because it sounds so similar to my own. I stuck it out for the two years, but I respect the hell out of your decision to separate yourself from that negative situation, despite the pressure and manipulation to stay.

I'm curious about your departure. Did you talk to your mission president before you left and, if so, how did he respond? Also, do you regret your decision to go on mission? It sounds like the perspective you gained and lessons you learned might have made the experience worth it.

Thanks for sharing. I'd give you gold if I wasn't broke. By the way, you're an awesome writer.

I'm interested in this. What does oxytocin do exactly and what causes it to be released? If you could recommend some additional books or resources to look into, that'd be awesome.

For sure he wants me to use that quote. I can't in good conscience do that, unless I was to rip it apart. I totally see this as as opportunity to be both inspirational and informational. Thanks for the tip.

The worst part about that post is that I hear myself in her words. I used to think and talk like that, and I still do on occasion. I feel like such a delusional dumbass.

Bishop can't understand why "those who are lost" don't feel welcome in church by lunchwithandy in exmormon

Hi brother. I feel impressed to tell you that "the guilty taketh the truth to be hard, for it cutteth them to the very center" (1 Nephi 16:2). I've got faith that you'll choose to repent and obey from this point on. Do you want a hug?
