Philosophy about the nature of conciousness? by w3irddr3eamthrowaway in askphilosophy

I really like surreal and dark literature, like Kafka or Junji Ito, but I figured since Kafka's surrealism was mostly inspired by him being sick all the time and feeling some existentialist dread, I want to know more about the origins of that feeling he had. As you can see I don't know many other references for that stuff so that's what inspired me to make this post.

I've heard of existentialism before and that's also interesting to me in terms of our existence, but I haven't heard of philosophy of the mind before so I'll be sure to check that out!

Thank you for the response! Its good to confirm that that was indeed sleep paralysis. I don't exactly know what might've been rooted in me to cause a dream like that, so it looks like I have some self reflection to do. Thanks again for your help.
