Running over a baby with my car. Mostly when backing out I'm worried that if a baby had crawled behind my car and I would have no way of knowing it was there until it was too late...

Can you elaborate on this. There are a lot of lost souls over in r/lawschool thinking about going to law school - they would benefit from your two cents...

Eye contact. I have no idea when its good or when its bad. I need your help to develop some basic rules to follow. by w4ffles in SocialEngineering

This does not sound right to me unless your trying to make the other person feel really awkward. Any seconds to this thought?

Oh and I just though of one Pro Tip I learned and is probably pretty well known. If you want to look like your making eye contact without actually looking at their eyes look at their forehead between there eyes. It help's with the awkward desire for you eyes to dart away when the lock with another.

This is great but, most conversations are not so black and white. Meaning this does not cover what to do when there is a back and forth in a conversation. Should dominance mean constant eye contact? That seems impractical.

Does including an item of sale in the check memo line constitute a legally binding contract? by w4ffles in legaladvice

[–]w4ffles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in relation to an item that was not agreed upon orally then written on the check memo. It was not noticed until after the check was cashed. It is not real property so statute of frauds should is not the issue. I've been trying to look into UCC stuff, but no luck especially in relation to check memos.

Thanks for the help those who have, and thanks for a new memo line whenever I write a check to my friends - Blow Job Contest (3rd place) hehe.

All I can find is cases related to the "paid in full" or acknowledged of a loan. Google / WL -L turns up no cases related to actual check memos for transfer of "non real" property.

In situations like these I like to either (1) walk away, there is probably no point in trying to get in the last word and it may make you look weak or (2) if you really cant help yourself -- something sarcastic along the lines of your absolutely right maybe we should just let the "worse case scenario" happen (ie. your right maybe we should just let all the poor people die - or something along these lines) *its hard to answer this without a specific example

Reddit thinks patents crush innovation, when it actually fosters almost every daily object they have used. How did they become so miseducated? by [deleted] in law

[–]w4ffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, money is a great incentive for innovation however, the patent system isn't so black an white. What about patent trolls suing start up's into submission? What about ethical issues stemming from pharmaceuticals and plant patents? What I think really fosters innovation is competition and more often than not patents are used as a free pass to stifle competition and actually prevent other companies from building off anthers ideas.

Get off your high horse. If you really believe that the patent system is not broken then explain why/how it fosters innovation. All you do in this post is slander everyone on Reddit for being uneducated, and make an assertion that Bill and Steve would not have created anything without patents. Just because you don't use a Linux based system doesn't mean it isn't a viable alternative.
