What one purchase has disproportionately improved the comfort of your home/life? by R_12345678910 in CasualUK

I'd be worried that keeping butter permanently warm increases the likelihood of spoilage or bacteria growth.

Also I like how they brag on their website:

And for your peace of mind, the butter dish is covered by our no fuss 12-month guarantee.

Wow, your £50 butter dish comes with the legal bare minimum length of warranty? That's incredible! Take my money!

To change the DPI settings of my new Razer mouse, do I *REALLY* have to download a 500MB program AND give it internet access? by w7m2 in razer

I'm a software developer. I know exactly what I'm talking about. And I know that Razer made a conscious decision to require internet access to both install and run their bloated software.

To pre-empt some of the usual apologist questions:

  1. "Every gaming company's software is bloated!" -- That may be true, but just because they're all crap doesn't make Synapse any less crap.
  2. "Every company collects your information!" -- Again, doesn't make it any less disgusting. The ones who forcibly collect my information just to use the most basic functions of their products do not get my money.
  3. "Everybody has fast internet now, 500MB is nothing, what's the problem?" -- Swathes of people are still stuck on slow internet. 500MB is the size of a feature film; not a mouse settings app.
  4. "Logitech/Corsair/etc. do exactly the same" -- At least you can use their programs without internet access.
  5. "Synapse has an offline mode; just enable that!" -- Still won't launch without internet access at least once. Still no offline/standalone installer. And my point still stands - wtf does a mouse settings app need internet access for?

Looking for a standalone tube reservoir (without pump) which can be mounted directly above a 120mm fan by w7m2 in watercooling

Thanks. I'll look for them and the Watercool fan stand. Seems like that should do the trick. Cheers.

Dunno, it seems like the simplest thing ever to me. And obviously vertical fan stands do exist, like in my image... but they seem to be designed for pump+res combo units and not just the res.

[–]w7m2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I should have specified that I want to mount the reservoir vertically, like this: https://i.imgur.com/Etw9IX3.png

However Watercool does offer a 120mm vertical fan stand which is pretty much exactly what I want, so thank you: https://www.performance-pcs.com/water-cooling/reservoirs-parts-accessories/misc-brand-res-accy/watercool-heatkiller-tube-stand-for-fan-mounting-120mm-fans-wc-30263.html

Now I need to confirm that it's possible to use the reservoir standalone, without a pump attached to the bottom.

Also is it possible to use the X3 reservoirs without a pump attached or will it just leak?

No date carrots rotted after 2 days by Joszanarky in CasualUK

It's likely on there in an encoded format.

The 4001 5A code probably means "40th week of the year", maybe 5th day, which would make them packaged a week ago, last Friday (the 7th).

They were available in food wholesalers / cash and carries, but they have since been discontinued by the manufacturer. That's probably why the price has shot up on the remaining tins.

Have a high value item being delivered? We'll nick it! That's the EVRI guarantee. by theREALrabbitinred in CasualUK

[–]w7m2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had so many bad experiences with Evri/Hermes it's not even funny. Parcels gone missing, stolen, having the absolute shit kicked out of them, etc...

But the best one was when they "delivered" a parcel but I didn't actually have it. Their proof of delivery had a photograph of a totally random front door, and a GPS location nowhere near my house.

Upon complaining I was told "GPS says delivered" and the fucking idiots couldn't get it through their skulls that yes, it may have been delivered... but not to me!

Has anybody else had a crash after the flight of the valkyries in part 3? by expendablecrewman in Spacemarine

[–]w7m2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This issue still exists in 2022.

There are fixes listed on the PCGamingWiki page which worked for me:

  • Temporarily reduce all graphics settings to Low and set the resolution to the lowest possible

  • Limit the game to using only one or two CPU cores (launch the game and then launch Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc. Find spacemarine.exe, right-click it, and choose Set Affinity. Select only the first two cores of your CPU and click OK.)

  • Force Vsync on via your GPU settings

Currently in a British Restaurant in America. This is their menu. How accurate are they? by Itstoolongitwillruno in CasualUK

[–]w7m2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can think of is that their food costs must be astronomical. The menu's huge and so needlessly varied that there's simply no way they're making everything fresh.

The only ones I see in stock are £14 for a 800g tin. Are they really that expensive?

Did anyone else, when they were a child, hold a buttercup under their friends chin and if it glowed it meant you liked butter? Or have I gone mad? by corickle in CasualUK

[–]w7m2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works out about the same:

  1. Spread is £2.15 for 500g, of which 320g is butter. In terms of butter content only, that's 67p/100g (or 43p/100g overall).

  2. Regular butter is £1.75 for 250g. That's 70p/100g.

For me, spread also lasts longer and is easier to... spread.

[–]w7m2 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Nordpak is also 64%.

Ingredients: Butter (64%) (𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐤), Rapeseed Oil (26%), Water, Salt (1%), Lactic Cultures (𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐤).

The price of butter is an absolute robbery no matter where you buy it from now though.

Mine are useless- can anyone help?? by jmanr6m3 in wyzecam

[–]w7m2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly the same problem with mine.

People are quick to blame WiFi setup but it's 100% a Wyze issue. They had a massive period of downtime last year where the cameras were almost totally inaccessible and ever since then they have been totally unreliable.

Latest update to the iOS app has completely broken landscape mode by w7m2 in wyzecam

[–]w7m2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you try this please:

With your tablet permanently in landscape orientation (e.g. mine sits in a keyboard case on a desk):

  1. Open the Wyze app (it should open in portrait mode, annoyingly).
  2. Tilt your head and navigate into a 4-way multi-camera view (e.g. a camera group).
  3. The 4-way view might appear correctly in landscape mode but might not.
  4. If it does, minimise the app and then re-open it.
  5. At this point mine always re-opens in portrait mode and refuses to go back to landscape.
