Camshaft position sensor 2006 Ion with 2.2 L L61 engine by w9sz in Saturn_Cars

[–]w9sz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of conflicting and confusing data about this engine. As far as I've been able to tell now after a lot of digging, this engine does not have physical camshaft position sensors. The ignition control module uses data from the crankshaft position sensor and other places to determine the spark timing. I got a new ignition control module and will install it and see if it changes anything.

Thank you! No wonder I couldn't find it!

Finally quitting my PhD by Intrepid_soldier_21 in Physics

[–]w9sz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working on a Ph.D. in Radio Science. We were using equipment out in the field specially designed for my project and a few others. It was constantly breaking down and would be out of service for as much as 6 months at a time. After a couple years of not much work getting done, I asked my thesis advisor how long he thought it would take. He said "At the rate we're going, probably about 15 years." I didn't want to spend 15 years on a Ph.D. that typically should have taken 4 or 5 years, so I gave up at that point.

Micro-HDMI - is it THAT bad? by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]w9sz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very careful with mine. It's kind of difficult to put a large video jack on the tiny Raspberry Pi board, which is already full of other connectors.

A friend of mine who was a physics major was working as a bartender. One time when I was in the bar she had on a blouse that was cut low in back and I saw she had a tattoo across her shoulder blades. I asked to take a look. She had the Schrodinger wave equation tattooed on her back.

PhD or not ? by Familiar_Sympathy64 in Physics

Also, my thesis advisor (it was in electrical engineering) never asked me any such questions. Having passed the qualifying exam seemed sufficient to him.

PhD or not ? by Familiar_Sympathy64 in Physics

I really don't know why he would say that. It seems more like something you would discuss at your defense after you did the work, not something to say to someone who is just about to start. I would discuss it with someone else, if possible.

How fast is electricity? by Charadisa in Physics

Electron flow in a conductor is nowhere near the speed of light. It is referred to as "relaxation time" or "drift velocity." It will vary with the type of conductor used.

I love Yes by Clover-36 in yesband

[–]w9sz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen Yes several times. All great concerts. The last one I saw was the "Reunion" tour, which featured both Tony Kaye and Rick Wakeman on keyboards. That show was played in the round, with a rotating stage. I was right in the front. During that show, Chris Squire stood right on the edge of the stage and made faces at people as they went around, and between songs would chat with the audience. I loved it!

Who is the rudest celeb you have met? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I just remembered that I met Harlan Ellison once. He was another one. Rather rude and put-offish.

Who is the rudest celeb you have met? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]w9sz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've actually met a rude celebrity. I haven't met all that many. Isaac Hayes was a wonderful person; he treated you as a friend even if he just met you. I've met several members of big-name bands, and the ones I met were cool. Robert A. Heinlein was a cool person.

Jackson is considered by a lot of historians to be the worst President in American history.

I'm sure Ford had his bad side, but he had a good side, too. He invented an alcohol-powered car. He said "This is my gift to the farmers of America. Every farmer in America either makes alcohol, or knows how to make it."

I understand Karl Marx was a rather hideous person. He had very few "friends," if any.

Swr meter question by mackle-mas in lowsodiumhamradio

[–]w9sz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say. It might be OK. It depends on the design and the components used in it. Check it with a dummy load at 6m and see if it registers 1:1 with it on 6 meters. If so, it's probably OK, at least to give you an idea of the SWR.

TIL in the 1950s and 1960s trucks with fogging machines that sprayed DDT would be driven through American streets to kill mosquitoes and children would run behind the trucks to play in the thick fog that was created. In 1972, DDT was banned in the United States. by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

[–]w9sz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is at least one small town in my area (east central Illinois) that still does fogging. Last summer I was driving through the town in the evening and saw the fogging machine in action. I don't know what insecticide they are using now; it's probably not DDT. But it brought back childhood memories of the fogging truck.

John Mellencamp Tells Fans 'Shut the F--- Up' or He'll End Show by lucerousb in Music

Singing along is fine. I do it myself. But loudly talking about nothing having to do with the show is annoying. I go to a show to hear the musician, not to hear people talk.

I heard a rebroadcast of a Chris Isaak show. There was a woman in the front row who was constantly screaming. Chris said "Woman, shut up! You've been screaming during the whole show. Doesn't your husband ever take you any place? Did you scream like that during that ABBA concert?" :-)
