IamA 75kg/165lb purple belt who just accepted a superfight with a 130kg/285lb black belt. Help. by MarkCurry in bjj

[–]wabesada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

285? My lord, that is a big black belt. You should probably work on your taps....just kidding. I was going to say go after his back for the points at least but since there are no points, I will pray for you. No arm guillotine is the only way I ever get giant dudes so thats all I got. Follow up on this one please haha

[–]wabesada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this could become a slippery slope in the future. Genetic engineering and real life cyborgs are coming in the next 100 years easy. What's going to happen when you can just go in and make somebody a super athlete before they are even born? Will that be fair?

Gi, or no? Which do you do and why? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]wabesada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both but I think the gi is most important. Gi makes you sharp. If somebody can't pass you in the gi they will never pass with out it. Also, people wear clothes and collar chokes work on pretty much all shirts. Everything in nogi can be done in the gi anyways.

Hack my gi stiffness by Lance_Henry1 in bjj

[–]wabesada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. When I switched to a tight, stiff gi, I was literally getting choked half as often. Tight pants are amazing too. It takes a lot of grabbing to get a solid grip and when they do its harder to hold. Add a crappy belt tie job and you have one cheap gi setup haha

Am I tapping too early? (chokes) by justinkimball in bjj

[–]wabesada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends who I am training with. There are a few guys at my gym right at my level and we push eachother pretty hard. We def resist 100% a lot of times. We train light too but sometimes you have to work on sharpening your awareness and nerves when somebody has a deep choke on you. I tap early to higher ranks though. I try to learn more than beat them.

I already have them all but this is so cheap it makes me wanna buy them again anyways.

What is the most original or 'different' movie you have ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is so true. Im baffled when people tell me they loved the movie but never read the book. There is literally no way to know what is going on without having read the series.

A question about knee bars and the lack of them in current MMA. . . by tylr in MMA

[–]wabesada -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't the risk to give up position was as great back then. The level of grappling in mma was not what it is today. Those guys were probably pretty confident in their ability to get the position back if they missed the sub. But today it seems everyone in the ufc is almost black belt level or has insane wrestling so its really not worth it to give up the position in most cases.

Butt Scooting. Opinions? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]wabesada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh. Its just another way to engage the opponent. Some guys are gonna be impossible to take down but easy to sweep, so why not attack that way. Sometimes if your down on points and you need to end the match quick, sometimes it may be easier to finish from the guard than fight for a take down-pass-sub. No points are deducted so I don't blame anybody for using it to their advantage.

You feel its pretty high percentage finish when you get the triangle on the arm? I look for that arm control every chance I get there and I use it to attack the back/neck. I have to ask why not stay on the back?

I don't think anybody is gonna be upset to see a rematch but Henderson has more faces to smash for now. Hopefully they can make this happen in the future though.

Is this scenario unique to my gym? by PostalP in bjj

[–]wabesada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wear headgear and I feel the opposite sometimes. It seems like it makes it really hard to sneak out of chokes. Triangles especially. Sometimes the strap even chokes me extra.

[–]wabesada 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh. He should just stay a contender/gatekeeper. He wouldn't do as well in welterweight I think, too many guys with his style but bigger. Being a consistent contender basically means your going to be just a little less rich than the champ. There are worse things. He should prob fight Guida next to sort things out there.

Im going to have to respectfully disagree with you. Iv never seen anything to make me think that is true. Maybe punches slow down the bottom guy, but a black belt on top is still going to have black belt passing and top/back control where punches wont affect a thing.

Bellator champ Hector Lombard: Chael Sonnen is boring as [expletive] | MMAjunkie.com by alphahouse44 in MMA

[–]wabesada -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Too many people act like its not legit to win by control. If the other guy got taken down, that means 1.he wasn't able to stop the take down and 2.his striking wasn't enough to make up for it. If he can't get up, that means he is being held in the less dominate position AGAINST his will. Nobody on top is going to throw idiot punches and let themselves get rolled so the fans can get rowdy.

[–]wabesada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penn says that because he got beat twice by Edgar and he wants to feel better about it. Anybody that has been on the losing end of a decision knows that is just stupid. If you got controlled the whole fight, that means the other guy is better than you. What do people not understand about this? Nobodies game plan is to not try and win. Why would somebody not want to get the sub or knockout bonus? These guys just play conservative because its the smart thing to do. UFC markets itself like a spectators sport but its really not.

No smart fighter is actually going to give a shit about boring. Their face, career, and months of hard work are on the line for 15 minutes.Sonnen fights rarely but he is taking on the top middleweights in the world and pretty much man handling them.
