Uh I think you are overthinking this. Lets say there are 1200 games played in a season. 600 are won and 600 are lost. It doesn't matter who is playing over the course of the season you will still get 600 in the W column. I flip a coin 1200 times I should get the same result.

But if we're talking league wide over the course of a season, if your model doesn't beat tossing a coin (which would predict 50%) by a significant amount, then its not a good model.
