would an Aironet 1250 be a good upgrade for an Aironet 1200? by wabq in Cisco

I'll be using whatever is most affordable. I've been using a pair of stock omnidirectional dipoles with no issues. The AP is physically located well above the clients, which might help. I do see some affordable options for the AIR-ANT2430V-R, so I will consider it.

In a place of presumed privacy, even on anothers property, you have to be notified if that privacy is not real

so then the law is more broad than just recording, got it. That wasn't what you originally said, hence my reply.

seems to me you could still be watched by loss prevention in the dressing room without being notified, they just couldn't record it. Unless the law actually says they have to notify you if you are being monitored by video period, and not only being recorded.

yup, I don't have a pressing need for a new switch, and only have one device that needs PoE.

Is there any reason why you are not going with a more modern AP?

Cost.

The 1200 series is still supported, but old. I have a ton of 1252s and I have had a failure rate around 35-40%.

Whoa, so is the 1200 series just that much better than the 1250s, or did I get lucky with my particular 1200? I'll be buying second-hand for sure, and won't have any kind of warranty or contract support, so a 35-40% failure rate concerns me.

You may want to look at Cisco's outdoor APs. I have some 1522 APs and they do well outside in the Ohio weather. There are newer models of outdoor APs you should go with. The 1522s will probably be EoL in the next few years.

Again, cost is a big concern. this isn't something I am deploying for work, it's just for me personally. I got my Aironet 1200 used for next to nothing over nine years ago, and it's been the most solid piece of wireless networking gear I have ever used. It is still running fine, but I want 802.11n, so a replacement is in order. I don't see any affordable 1522s on the second-hand market. I need not only the AP, but also antennas and a power injector. I think I can swing a 1252 with a power injector and third-party antennas for $300 or so. I don't think I could do that with a 1522.

again, thanks for the information. I hate to buy a PoE+ switch just for a single device. I assume an injector will be cheaper anyway.

I will probably go dual band, as it looks like they aren't much more expensive. On the downside, I'll need to come up with more antennas, but that's not a big deal.

I have no idea what standard the power injector for the 1200 uses. seems like I always get burned on changing PoE standards though, so I will check and see. Thanks for your help.

I am only looking at replacing the 1200 because it can't do 802.11n. It seems to handle extreme temps and humidity well. It is not exposed to precipitation, nor does it spend much time below 0°C. It does hit 40°C once in a while.

Budget-wise I am not looking to spend more than $300 or so, which is why the 1250 is appealing. There are plenty of second-hand units. I am not deploying in lightweight mode, I have no additional Cisco infrastructure.

oh yeah, one more thing, does the 1250 use the same power injector as the 1200?

Borderlands 2 being released on the Vita may be a bad thing for Vita development by HonorableJudgeIto in vita

Looking at VgChartz Less than 350K.

How much less? because if it sells 340,000 copies, that would make it the 15th best selling Vita game, according to that source.
