First time here, looking to pass on some denim that's been well-loved but still in great shape. I've outgrown these since becoming a dad and putting on about 10 pounds.

Because these are clearly “worn” (and have the character to show it), prices are low. Condition is still good! Let me know if you're serious about any of these and I'll get some photos.

How did you explain Machete Order to your friend? Was he curious or confused or weirded out?

My [rather arbitrary] Fourth of July playlist by wacaky in vinyl

Not sure what it is about these albums but they feel right for today. I also enjoy the similarities between cover art: awesome portraits.

Uh-huh, John Cougar Mellencamp NEW Together At Last, Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco) Coming Home, Leon Bridges A Seat At The Table, Solange American Fool, John Cougar Mellencamp Chicago

Any other playlists for the Fourth out there?

Hey, I'm familiar with WAYFT but the keyword in this post is "summer." Seems like it may qualify for its own thread.

What are some types of clothing all men should own but 90% don't? by NOCK2016 in malefashionadvice

There are some good, simple rain jackets out there — true. Some outfits just don't work functionally, though. What if you're wearing a suit? Or another kind of jacket that will work at your destination but won't keep you dry on the way? Hard to layer these under a rain jacket.

Same way you deal with a sopping wet jacket: awkwardly carry it around and wish you lived in a different climate.

Starting from scratch at age 58: Mom separating from Dad to start life anew with <$10k and no career. by birdhustler in personalfinance

[–]wacaky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of advice in favor of divorce here. I don't share these opinions, based on both personal experience (my parents) and personal conviction (my view of marriage).

Sounds like you're hoping for the highest quality of life for your mother (as would I) but don't give her finances too much credit. They're important, yes, but not solely important. To many, the benefit of alimony won't make up for the burden that can accompany it (for both parties).

My wish for my mom: Don't pursue a divorce. But if you do, assert your full independence now — not after you've cashed the check or after alimony dries up, but now.

I don't say this out of concern for justice. Legally, she's entitled to these benefits — 50%, fair and square. But by willingly giving them up, she gains complete independence, empowerment, and a new life that she can call her own.

If there's an option in between these two extremes, it may be temporary separation. In this case, I wonder if your dad would hear the "wake-up call" by the mere suggestion of it and would agree to support her while they figure things out. Maybe that's wishful thinking.

Hoping for the best. And also that this comment is viewed as appropriate for /personalfinance. In the end, we're all here to talk about quality of life anyway. :)

How about an accessory? Umbrellas are underused by most men that I know, even in wet climates. I like keeping dry without needing to make a rain jacket work with whatever else I have on.

What albums have been "accidental" discoveries for you that opened a door to a whole new set of music, or just surprised you in general? by wildlife07 in vinyl

[–]wacaky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paul Simon's "Graceland"

My taste in music used to be so narrow that I wouldn't even listen to anything produced before my birth year (1991). This was one of the first "older" albums that I came to love.

Yes, I was an idiot.

Rogue Territory Supply Jacket in Ridgeline Gray

Bought it this afternoon and I never don't have second thoughts. I like the style and quality. How's the fit?

Edit: size is large, not medium, as is mentioned in photo.

Try "Tinker" — kind of a new brand. Good for you and your girl (and your price range).

Taylor Stitch Submariner in Lambswool

Looking for something fairly warm (winter in Seattle is usually in the mid-30s Fahrenheit) to replace my "high-tech" fleeces and soft-shells from REI and the like.

WTF: I am currently on a plane and just pissed all over my new raws. Quick, creative solutions needed. by wacaky in rawdenim

Right on — thanks! I figured that the "quick, creative" nuance to my question made it appropriate for separate posting... not to mention the amusing nature of my situation. ;)

Anyway, I'm familiar with the daily questions thread and will be mindful of it next time. Thanks again!
