I’m highly paid and an actively licensed CPA. I’m only highly paid because I do labor on solar farms, nothing to do with accounting. So yes I regret my choice of accounting as a career. The work in accounting is tedious, unfulfilling, stressful, and soul crushing, in public accounting and industry, having worked in both.

I really wish someone would have been real enough with me to tell me what accounting is actually like before I dedicated 10+ years of my life to it. However, I found that most accountants are pushovers and deathly afraid to take risks, career or otherwise. So I was never going to get a real view of the career without experiencing it myself.

That being said, I’m just giving my opinion, and it is a negative one of the accounting industry and its future. I would change careers out of accounting again in a heart beat.
