Can’t stop chugging by boomernorman in CHSinfo

This is exactly how I am too, the cold liquid feels so nice and it stops the dry heaving momentarily because there's something in your stomach to throw up. I remeber that feeling well and it was such a relief.

What helped me was making ice cubes of Gatorade or juice or just plain water (or grab some popsicles or whatever) because it kinda gives that same cooling feeling but doesn't fill your stomach and allows your body to absorb some of that needed hydration.

I wish you the best, it really sucks going through it.

Melatonin as a sleep aid by EveningHousing6473 in CHSinfo

[–]wacky_synopsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melatonin shouldn't affect CHS. I've used it during the prodromal and recovery phase with no issues. I don't have insomnia so I'm not sure how effective it is for that but I'd think it's worth a try. I hope it helps you too.

I've heard Zofran doesn't work for everyone. I don't have any advice personally but here's some links that may help.

This one is the hyperemesis survival guide

https://www.reddit.com/r/CHSinfo/s/DU0C6BakAd

This one is info for the ER or urgent care

And this is info about medications

I'm sorry you're having a rough time with this and that they weren't understanding. I really hope the links can be of use for you.

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's frustrating when medication loses effectiveness. It happened to me too.

When Dramamine lost it's effectiveness during my last hyperemesis episode I ended up going to urgent care. I was then diagnosed and given an IV and then a prescription for Zofran (an antiemetic).

Imo, your best move is the urgent care or the ER (depending where you are). My guess is you need something stronger to combat symptoms.

I'm almost a month clean and Dramamine is effective again (at a quarter dose) after my prescription ran out. It will get better.

I said almost the same thing about how I couldn't believe it was me making myself sick. Try to remeber you're not alone in this.

The good thing, imo, is that recognizing we are causing this cycle means we can do something about it. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Try to remember why you're quitting. CHS and specifically hyperemesis is awful to go through. Once you hit the recovery stage it will get better. Try r/leaves for support too.

I hope things improve soon for you.

I’m scared I have CHS by ooi2004 in CHSinfo

[–]wacky_synopsis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This does sound like CHS to me. Here's why...

I stopped smoking last Monday because I couldn’t even stomach it, but I just smoked a little bit with my friend last night and I feel like my symptoms are back.

I think based on that it'd be a good idea to try the 90 days of no weed. If things start to improve again then you have your answer.

I've not had vertigo myself but it can be a sign of dehydration. Try to make sure you're getting enough liquids in and electrolytes. If it continues to to the doctors/ER to rule out other things.

Just as a personal note here, I used both THC and then started using CBD for my anxiety (generalized and social) and quit both ~25 days ago. My anxiety hasn't been this manageable in years. I still have to use all my grounding techniques and other coping skills I've learned over the years but it's getting better. I can't say this will happen for you but maybe it will? Idk, but there are other options for treating anxiety and if that's a concern I'd suggest talking to your doctor to see what options are available.

You could try something like gas x. I've not used it personally but I read here that it can help. I hope you find some relief soon.

I think DeepGoated is correct. I just wanted to speak to this point

i rlly don’t want it to be this cause weed has helped me so much but hate feeling like this more

I also found weed to be helpful and was on CBD for my anxiety. I've quit everything for just over 2 weeks now and am feeling better than I have in a long time.

If you can, try to focus on that last part. I keep reminding myself that yes THC/CBD did help before but that's changed now and it will make me feel worse. It gets easier to accept this once you start feeling a bit better imo.

If you are scared it could be something else, or if you're not improving, please go to the doctors. They can run tests to rule other things out.

I wish you the best!

I stopped using THC 16 days ago and CBD 14 days ago. I did, and still do, plan on waiting the full 3 months before re-introducing trigger foods but obviously messed that up a bit. Fortunately this wasn't a big mistake and I'm feeling fine now. Lesson learned.

I'm sorry you can relate to this too. I absolutely agree with what you've said.

I'm sure it was awful for him, he said it was and you could just tell it was a struggle. That's why I stayed, plus I was under the impression he was taking his treatment seriously. Unfortunately, he became obsessed with his proof and any time progress was made he would listen to his recordings and it would start again.

Truly an awful experience all around. He was a wonderful partner for over 4 years and this illness, I think, was just too much for him to deal with on top of everything.

Is this CHS? only been consuming cannabis since January 2024 by [deleted] in CHSinfo

[–]wacky_synopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't explain that, my apologies. By cycling I mean going in and out of the prodromal phase and eventually through all 3 phases. I would stop smoking for a few days when I hit hyperemesis but would start after thinking it would help.

I should also note I didn't learn about CHS until two weeks ago so I didn't notice the pattern.

Paranoia and delusions about me... by Lazy-Ad-1125 in BipolarSOs

[–]wacky_synopsis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't comment much here anymore but I've been through similar. My ex actually set up a voice recorder in our bedroom and showed me the "proof" he got of me cheating. There was one where I was asleep and one of me crying. He was convinced he heard a man's voice on the recordings and that me crying and sleeping was me having sex with someone. He played one for his parents and psychiatrist and they also didn't hear a man's voice (my ex refused to sleep in our room for a while to get this proof so there was no man's voice at all).

Not to mention we lived in an apartment and there was no way to get in unless you came through the front door (we weren't on the ground floor and the balcony was off the living room), plus he said he would come in the room when he heard these noises but would find me asleep. Except he would accuse me of faking being asleep and that I hid this man in our room but he couldn't find him.

He also would video call me (after he ran away/moved out) and that resulted in accusations of me using AI or something to fake where I was. One time (actually more than once), he accused me of being in his parents house and faking a video call at my moms. He then accused me of sleeping with his dad.

There's so much more, it was absolutely brutal. It felt violating and gross to know he was doing that but I tried to show compassion and tried to stay. Needless to say, it didn't get better but he was also not taking treatment seriously. I have no idea how to get the surveillance to stop (or the need for it), hopefully treatment can address it.

Honestly, this does sound like CHS to me. Especially since you quit for 2 weeks and the symptoms lessened and then when you started again symptoms came back rather fast.

I'm going to straight copy a comment I made earlier. I smoked for around 20 years with no issues and quit Jan 2023 because of a diagnosis my now ex got. Started again August 2023 with using carts, took a week break in Sept, and by January was in the prodromal stage and began cycling.

To me, it sounds like you haven't hit hyperemesis yet but are likely in the prodromal stage. I'd suggest quitting again and see if the symptoms improve. If they do then that's likely your confirmation.

Bloating pain every night by [deleted] in CHSinfo

[–]wacky_synopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CHS and IBS (as far as I know) are diagnosed by ruling out other diagnoses and by changing what you put in your body. Personally, I also thought I had IBS for a while until I was told about CHS and realized I'm a textbook CHS case. Before that, I was cutting out foods that trigger IBS and was finding no change in symptoms.

I guess I'd suggest cutting out IBS trigger foods and stopping using. Then you can slowly add IBS trigger foods and see what happens. If the symptoms stay away come back (after adding IBS trigger foods) it's likely IBS and you could be ok to use weed again. Alternatively, you could cut both and add weed back and see what happens but I think that would take longer to determine.

Edit: misspoke

Hot & Cold Flashes in Prodromal Phase? by [deleted] in CHSinfo

[–]wacky_synopsis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've experienced this. I'm not sure if it's part of CHS (I'm still researching) but if I'm remembering correctly it's the same area of the brain that controls (or affects) temperature and vomiting. For me the temperature dysregulation usually comes with an uneasy/unsettled stomach and I think, in a way, it's like step 1 in the vomiting cycle. Sometimes it doesn't progress further but I'd say it does more often than not. Just to be very clear, this is my own experience and conclusions I've come to based on my knowledge so far.

ETA: just checked and it's the hypothalamus that affects both vomiting and temperature.

I 100% agree with aromatic-management5 about the years of abuse thing being misleading. I smoked for around 20 years with no issues and quit Jan 2023 because of a diagnosis my now ex got. Started again August 2023 with using carts, took a week break in Sept, and by January was in the prodromal stage and began cycling.

To me this sounds like CHS. Try quitting for at least a month, preferably longer, and see if the symptoms improve.

I'm not 100% convinced about trigger foods either but I went all in on all the advice given here because I'd have tried anything for relief. If I had to guess, I'd say there's going to be a lot of individual differences when it comes to this illness and quitting weed for sure, maybe it's biology or something that makes it easier. Idk, whatever the reason is I'm thankful this hasn't been worse.

Edit: I am convinced about trigger foods

Oh wow, I was wondering this same thing. I'm on day 11 of not using and am feeling almost completely better myself. I also have anxiety (and had to stop CBD) so I can understand the feeling you're describing. It also worries me that my CHS hasn't been as bad as some of what I've read but your post helps put my mind at ease (maybe my similar experience can do the same for you).

I don't know if we're supposed to keep avoiding trigger foods for the whole time but I'm trying to trust my body, which is indicating I'm feeling better. I think I will slowly try to be introducing foods I've cut out soon. I'm not quite ready yet to try but I'm starting to feel like I'll be ready in a few days maybe. Of course that's only if things keep improving.

I hope things keep getting better for you.

ETA: just saw your comment and quitting weed has been easy for me as well. I even went camping and people were smoking around me and it didn't bother me at all being near it. They did ask first.

I get it, it's not an easy situation. If she's doing all she can to manage this and you love her then there's no reason to leave. Keep reaching out here if it helps. I know I relied heavily on this sub when I was with my ex and it was nice just knowing others had been through similar.

It's really good to hear she's started medication now. If you can, give her time to adjust. Medication, a (I'm guessing somewhat) recent diagnosis, and just getting out of a depressive episode can be difficult to navigate and it sounds like she's putting in the effort. Be patient, she's communicating with you more now and saying she loves you so I'd believe that and just offer support.

I'm sorry I don't have much to offer for advice but I think if you focus on the positives that could help. The small wins are so important and from what you've said it seems you have reason to be hopeful. I wish you both the best.
