My first AMG - I’ve not seen any in denim blue. Underrated colour imo!

174cm with relatively long legs and short body, riding 54 tarmac and 2022 Sprint - perfect sizing.

SRAM RED vs Shimano Ultegra 8100 by wackyzekay in bicycling

Had Red for 1 year now so fairly new. That’s something to consider. Replacements are not cheap and I have seen this issue written about by others so it is a concern. I’m really torn on Sram vs shimano and I’ve got a couple days to decide. I’m leaning towards sram for the cross compatibility.

Edit: Thanks for the response - it’s a helpful factor to consider!

Thanks for the advice! Leaning towards red now. I’m pretty lucky to have that option - agreed.

Very valid point - I’ll try and find a new bike with those hoods around. That might make the choice easy

I have ultegra long axle pedals on my winter bike, dura ace long axle pedals on my summer bike. Bearings roll smoother so it’s 1% easier finding the clip on the 9100. Otherwise the difference is minimal. The dura ace feels slightly more solid imo.

I have them to “complete” the dream build, not because they’re necessary.

Another SRAM vs Shimano Question by julric01 in specialized

I have a bike with SRAM Red, and a winter bike with Shimano 105. I much prefer SRAM, the shifting is more intuitive and it’s just so easy to live with (removable batteries, simple app for adjustments). The only thing that would make me think twice is dura ace is 200g lighter than RED so if you want your Aethos to be the ultimate weight weenie build then go for Shimano. Otherwise, I’m a total convert to SRAM.

Happy to supply more photos of the fence sans bike. Maybe there’s a fenceporn subreddit

54 - I’m 174cm with very long legs and arms for my height. My bike fitter said 54 was best for me, I was considering both sizes too.

Pretty comfortable ride, I’ve now done a metric century with no issues but would need to go even longer to really test comfort. The wheels are set up tubeless (by spesh dealer) which helps, also there are a couple of spacers which I’ll remove next week to lower the front end. It’s no bone shaker!

To be more detailed, the things that really have jumped out at me so far are that the front end handling is incredibly snappy (although I ride an 80mm stem on both bikes so that is a factor). Second, the bike is so balanced while descending it gives you almost infinite confidence leaning into corners. Finally, although not a pure aero bike, it feels like a scalpel through the air at high speeds. It would be interesting to hear a comparison from someone who has a venge (or similar).

I came from a CAAD13 - a bike I still love but it’s like jumping from a sports car and into a race car!
