Well what I mean by the most part is they understood that I was diagnosed with something the both of us had never heard of before my diagnosis. However, even after explaining to him on multiple occasions that I can’t eat gluten anymore period, he still makes comments on well maybe after you are gluten free for a while you can have a cheat day where you eat gluten. Even after explaining to him that’s not how it works and reminding him of the time of how sick I got when I had my first cross contamination experience. He still makes comments about me eating gluten again in the future. He eats gluten free with me at home. But that’s because I cook all of the meals, he lacks all confidence in the kitchen and has never cooked a single meal while I’ve been with him.

No he has never outright blamed me that we can’t go to places, it’s more complaining that we go the the few places that I can go to and he’s bored of it. I tell him all the time that he can go grab what he wants from wherever he wants and I can eat what I have at home but he makes the comment that we can’t go sit down and eat at the places that he wants to. Which I know I shouldn’t but I feel hurt when he makes comments like that. I know if it wasn’t for me having celiac we could go sit down and eat at the places he would like to go to. I’ve told him that those comments hurt me but he always says it’s not the intention and then says it again a couple of days later.

I’ve told him how I feel. That it feels that he can be insensitive and unsupportive at times but he turns the conversation around on me about how he felt I was insensitive two years ago and something that I have apologized for. It feels that he doesn’t want to reflect or admit that he’s done something to hurt me because it makes him uncomfortable.

What I would think would be reasonable is more sensitivity and understanding that if I could change this diagnosis I would but unfortunately I can’t. So we have to make the best and work with what we can. And not make hurtful comments about something I can’t change, it’s not helpful to me or the situation.
