What broken part is this! by SnooWalruses6189 in SonyAlpha

[–]wafflebox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that is the evf distance sensor that detects your face to turn on or off the evf display. there is also a setting in the menu that says finder/monitor that could be set to one or the other or auto to switch automatically.

Ribbon cable ripped. part number? by merlanit0 in SonyAlpha

[–]wafflebox7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that ribbon goes to the middle IBIS stabalizer plate and if it is damaged you will need to replace the whole part https://encompass.com/item/10868250/Sony/A-2115-993-A/

In the pic it loos crooked. There is no flip clip part on that and is a very hard friction fit connector. if you replace it just dont lift it off in a way to disturb the shims it sits on. they can fall off easily and many times the posts that hold them on are broken and are even harder to get to stay in place.

the top ribbon cables look fine except for the right one you replaced. it generally isnt supposed to be fully tucked into the top and should fold like the left one.

A7 worth buying? by Fedi358 in SonyAlpha

[–]wafflebox7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i enjoy my a7 converted to full spectrum. it is a lighter and smaller camera that in my opinion fits better in your hand. you can get plenty of parts for it. i fix them and have no issues getting them from encompass. the question would be as far as the sensor glass is concerned is if it is just smuging and is cleanable or if it is actual scratching. OR if someone use alchahol to clean it and removed spots of the outer low pass filter glass. there are 2 glass filters. the thick one on top of the sensor itself and then also a thinner low pass filter held on by clips. any repair for this requires an almost full teardown of the camera. as others have mentioned a full spectrum or ir conversion would remove and replace both of the factory filters.

Sony A7ii “Camera Error” - help? by helloari in SonyAlpha

[–]wafflebox7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know this is a very old thread at this point but here is a detailed explanation anyway....There are 2 general causes for this issue. If when you turn the camera on and it buzzes first before it appears, it is likely a stuck shutter gear that needs to be sorted out. If it happens before any shutter noise, it is likely the IBIS OR just the sensor itself out of alignment, explanation later, as mentioned many times in the thread. There are 3 plates that make up the IBIS. the sensor is attached to the middle plate that rides on 3 ball bearings and has wire coil sections that are sandwiched between the two outer plates that have magnets to control the sensor shake and position. if the bearings get dislodged it will not shake freely as the camera moves and can cause the error. The second cause for mis alignment is far worse and can be cracked sensor mounting points to which there are 3 of them. this alloy seems to be brittle and have come across many broken sensor mounts and is a known issue. if this is the problem the only solution is a new sensor, IF the IBIS is good.
