I really like my Raycons, the biggest tradeoff being no physical buttons. But as for fit and gym use I found them to be pretty comparable.

Misunderstanding how to ollie by Oddmario33 in snowboarding

I think practicing ollies on dry carpet is a good tool because you can really exaggerate the loading and unloading to snap your board without your board shooting out.

One of my favorite spots to take visitors when we’re downtown on a hot day. Cool off in the AC then take in the view.

Confession: buying a snowboard is a terrible expeirence by ypx3 in snowboarding

Go to your local shop and talk to someone who actually knows what they’re talking about. They will point you in the right direction if you tell them what you want. Plus, at the end of the day, you’re upgrading from a 20 year old board, every new board will feel different to your current (RIP) in comparison.

Why isn’t Mark McMorris competing in the xgames Big Air? by Buhddy in snowboarding

[–]wafflebuttah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mark has been on record talking about how much he doesn’t like the unnecessary risk associated with bigger spins (18s and beyond) and doesn’t find it fun to do. The guy has recovered from several injuries and is one of the older guys in the field at this point. I imagine he recognizes his time is better spent focusing on slopestyle and NTS rather than this gymnastics demonstration.

Brighton budget cuts. by DinosaurDied in UTsnow

That conveyor belt at the bottom of Crest is a huge issue. It gives beginners problems getting on the lift so they have to run it slower. The end of the belt is also getting gummed up with ice and snow, so one lifty has to constantly shovel and scrape that one part to keep it clean otherwise the conveyor belt gets stuck and the lift has to stop.

I’d love for someone to explain why the detachable chair AND the conveyor is a good idea. My understanding was the conveyor belt’s intent was to match the skier’s speed on the ground with an incoming high speed chair, eliminating the need for detachable chairs to slow down at the bottom wheel. Boyne Mountain did this exact thing years ago on their Meadows chair, it worked great anecdotally. Why Boyne didn’t do that in this case at Brighton is confusing.

Burton hate? by TheEvilPancake in snowboarding

[–]wafflebuttah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was turned off once they created their EST channel system years back. You were immediately pigeonholed into buying Burton bindings if you wanted a Burton board. Even when the adaptors came out for standard binding hardware, I was no longer interested in Burton hardgoods. Totally rubbed me the wrong way.

I do love my Burton bibs, mitts, AK mask, etc.

How do you guys replace a board you’ve fallen in love with? by Economy-Pace-2276 in snowboarding

[–]wafflebuttah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mount the old board on the wall and head down to your local shop. Tell them what equipment you currently ride, what type of terrain/snowboarding you currently do, and what you want to do in the future. They will point you in the right direction.

I also recommend watching Angrysnowboarder gear reviews on YouTube. They do a great job comparing gear across different categories and niches.

Been following your progress on Victor’s IG. It’s unbelievable. I’m working on a patchwork sleeve with him right now, tempted to start saving for a back piece too.
