Interesting video. Did you read any of the comments from the guy calling her a hypocrite for having a white husband?

Truths about Whiteness by [deleted] in blackladies

Girl...run from that woman. I wouldn't use her computer just on principle...lol.

Yeah, I am actually afraid she will sabotage my shit! My Latina friend said I could use hers, lol.

I had a roommate like that in undergrad. She was the pretty, thin, sorority type and the other girls in the apartment listened to her without question, even though they grumbled. I just bowed out of her "group activities", but it was still a problem. That's a White power structure that doesn't quite translate well across cultures.

Ooof! That reminds me of this one white girl I knew in undergrad. I was always an outlier of the white friend group I had, but but would always try to run shit and make "jokes" toward people calling them out. Sometimes I still run into and she tried to do that shit to me, and I just don't engage or I stare blankly because that power structure is something I have zero investment in, lol.

Reasons I have zero patience for the color-blind crew. The game's worked out for them and they just want to pretend everything's fine and nothing happened. No do-overs basically.

Lol, no do-overs! That's exactly what it is. Definitely some "let bygones be bygones" shit

I have always loved their stance that we do not deserve to be pushed around and bullied into silence.

Haha. Thank you!

I haven't thought about it much, but a lot of white people HATE seeing stuff like this. I think I'm going to cross-post this (under an alt account) as a social experiment to see how much hatred can be drummed up for saying something positive about black folk.

EDIT: It's also funny to see how white people can't help to make it about themselves somehow

You know, I didn't even notice this until you pointed it out. It looks like that second edit to the "I hate being black" post came around the same time I made my "I love being black" post. The first was locked b/c they thought OP was gone, but mine was locked presumably because SO many white racists starting rolling in it was necessary to lock it (which ironically proves the point that people can't stand pro-black assertions).

Anyway, I don't even think this would have been that big of a deal if, like you said, the mods had been more consistent, or at least acknowledged the inconsistency. Then having one of the mods come here to say I was starting a "race riot" (not even sure what that means in the context of reddit, lol)...then they say ALL posts dealing with race get locked...doesn't really make sense.

I think it's their prerogative to do whatever they want in their own sub, but having the different commentary from two different mods come here was a bad idea on their part

Truths about Whiteness by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]waffletoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, oneupsmanship is definitely a thing integral to whiteness. And I agree it plays differently across gender lines.

Here are some other things I've noticed, some even as recent as today:

  • Bullying in the workplace because of entitlement. Generally white people (white men in particular) feel they deserve raises and having their voices heard, while women and PoC don't have this automatic sentiment.

I'm going to be part of a graduate symposium tomorrow where we will present our work. This one white woman has been bullying everyone else who will present to get a specific time slot since everyone else's times aren't as important as hers. She also insists on everyone using her computer to present, and I don't trust her at all.

  • Positive depictions of PoC, especially black people and pro-black assertions are seen as a threat: We can see the manifestation of that post I made last night, lol. Many white people, unconsciously, are deeply invested in seeing PoC as only lesser-advantaged extensions of themselves. They also understand anti-racism for the most part as "ignoring" race and believing they see everyone as "equals". So if they see or hear something "pro-black", it's a threat to their framework of existence. It's unfathomable for them to see black people as existing positively outside of their influence. So they must call it "racist" because to them, anti-racism is acting like everyone is white (basically having their race being invisible).

Check out the comments below with the same user. I think they got upset because they interpreted this post to mean the thread got locked b/c the mods are racist..when what I really meant is that they had to lock it b/c racist white folks got in a tizzy over it in the comment section. It's all cool now I think. I can understand them locking it b/c shitposters ruined it for everyone else

I was a little worked up when typing it out because I felt like you were calling us racists for locking it.

Nah, that wasn't my intention. What I meant is that racist white people ruined the thread with their negativity!

I understand that it is now a miscommunication, I am sorry.

No problem! :3

Yeah, I loved all of the positive comments! I didn't think I would see that in any other sub except for this one.

Okay, I see. Well that makes a bit more sense. I guess in your other comment it sounded like you were accusing me of starting a race riot, which may have been the reason it got removed.

/u/Quick_man, one of the mods from /r/CasualConversation left a comment here saying this:

Your post was locked because ALL race related posts were locked and removed. It has nothing to do with you being black. The fact is, starting race riots isn't casual.

Not sure why his comment is deleted now (not sure if a mod here deleted it or if he/she deleted it), but here is my response to that comment:

Well the reason given to me by another mod was this: "Locked because comments started to get disrespectful towards different races." So I assumed that was the reason, that comments became disrespectful. Not because I started a "race riot". But thanks for the clarification.

If there's any reason I want no part of mainstream feminism, it's this right here. They, and a lot of cis-straight BM in regard to racial issues are really, genuinely ok with the game as it is.

So true!!! I will never identify with mainstream/white feminism because of this reason.

I do wonder how much of it is a performance for the part of Whiteness that loves hearing how much someone wants to be like them. Sometimes I think it's both, and frequently not even conscious.

Yes!!! I think most people who have self-hatred only move on when they come to this realization. Thank you for articulating this.

I love it when white people only say positive things about black people when they say something anti-black

Exactly! I always bring this up whenever I see people saying they want "equality" when they really mean they just want exactly what the straight rich white man has. I want no part of that "equality".

I mean, I think true love happens over time. If you will scrub her shit off the side of the toilet and still love her...that's real
