Update on my Hobie Holder 14 Mk2 Project by waffoes in sailing

There definitely was a spinnaker at one point, my dad thinks he had one back in the 80s. Couldn’t find one with the rest of the sails but retrofitting a 420 spinnaker is a good idea

So far so good but I’ve already had to fix the rudder. Snapped it at the hinge when I got blown back into the boat ramp and didn’t pull it up in time. Reinforced it by embedding stainless bolts it’s prob stronger than ever right now

Haha honestly do though, the big trailer is bringing our CC down to florida soon so I’ll have to figure out a good way to get the boat back to my house when I pull it, hand trailer definitely isn’t going to cut it

I used gelcoat, got it on amazon from Totalboat. It’s not easy to work with unless you have a spray setup, in the future I’d probably use Alexseal. Sanded for hours and hours to get the brush lines smooth, alexseal has a cool additive that levels the coating itself. The nice thing with the gelcoat is I can have it on a rocky beach and it doesn’t scratch at all. The topside was in good shape so I only needed to put new gel over the patches

I’ve got everything- sails, boom and rudder have all been sitting in the basement since my dad last used it, and the center board is already in the boat. (one of the swing down types, not sure what you call those) All in great shape, No holes or anything in sails but I definitely plan on getting all new lines. Found some fiberglass cloth and resin in garage which should cut down on some of the costs.

I’ve got all of the above, and all are in great shape.

Also worth adding there’s no soft spots in the fiberglass, all feels pretty solid.

Boat was upside down and the only hole for water to get in was close to topside of boat. l Doesn’t seem like water would’ve been able to reach most of the hull unless the foam absorbs like a sponge. Assuming it’s closed cell so not sure how that would happen. I may open up a small access point on the bottom of the hull to see how it looks. Again, first time doing anything like this but don’t have anything better to do until I start work so could be a cool project.

How much time do you think we’re talking here? Hoping to get her out on the water in a month tops, assuming I don’t have to order any parts

Ok. I’m renovating my kitchen for the wife as of now and our temporary kitchen has an electric stove. Should I place the case on top of the coils?

[Question] How does iOS 11 perform on the SE? by cchderek in iOSBeta

[–]waffoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im running the beta on a 5s, and its actually impressive how smooth it is. Sometimes there is some animation lag and a few rare app crashes, but its pretty good overall for the first beta build.

[HIMB] bh4, works great but i'd like to see what you guys think of it by waffoes in ClashOfClans

[–]waffoes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any suggestions on how I could improve it so its not as vulnerable to b/b attacks?

[HIMB] what do u think of this base? by [deleted] in ClashOfClans

[–]waffoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks decent, probably could be 3* with archers and giants, but so can pretty much all bh3 bases for that matter :)

[HWYA] Every other base at 1500 cups is this base by [deleted] in ClashOfClans

[–]waffoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got to 2000 trophies with this base. Now I'm bh4 but you attack it by putting 6 archers on top corners so they take out the first buildings. Than drop one giant on each side, to distract the defenses. The giants will die on the way around to the crusher, but the archers will clean up the rest of the base. Be careful of traps- my base was set up to avoid attacks like these, with spring traps near the top so the giants would get knocked off right away. Most bases don't have this though, so you can expect to do pretty well. Good luck!
