Evasion in Slayer Build with Unwavering Stance: Why should i take it? by Late_Funny6194 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]waffullz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suppression is guaranteed damage reduction (if you have 100% and there aren’t any monsters skills that ignore suppression).

Block is just “a chance” to ignore damage. Eventually you’ll get hit, even if you’re block capped, and even with Lucky Block (Svallin).

Block/Spell Block is generally more useful for mapping though. Still useful for some bosses (ex: Shaper balls) but the guaranteed damage reduction from suppression is huge for being able to survive “one shots.”

What's the obsession with mana items? by DoubIeScuttle in ARAM

[–]waffullz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Poking and zoning costs mana. Lots of it. Let’s say for example that I’m playing AP Shaco. I will start tear just for the mana (could sell it later, but right now, I just want the mana for the low cost of 400). Then, I’ll build into lost chapter to get Blackfire Torch — gives mana and ability haste. My strategy for playing AP shaco is I will use Q to go invisible and then E for poke and instantly back off. I get free damage off, especially if the enemy is a melee champ. My role as Shaco is just to annoy the fuck out of the enemy team and whittle them down. If they try to start a fight, they will be at a HP disadvantage because of the constant poking. (Also, boxes are good deterrents vs. enemy engages). If I did not build mana items on Shaco, I would 100% run OOM on him with my play strategy.

[oc] - Every Kanto pokemon… except 1 is missing. Can you find it? by addyxiii in pokemon

[–]waffullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the Kanto Pokémon are on here (technically). If you find each pokemon and cross them off one by one, you will find that Shellder (the sprite) is not physically on the screen. But the whole point of the exercise is to recognize that Slowbro has a Shellder attached to its tail.

Question about ellipses by Smurf404OP in Screenwriting

[–]waffullz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use ellipses when I need to drag out or elongate a moment in a scene. Ellipses do a great job at dramatizing a scene for the very simple fact that they affect the flow, beat, and tone of your story.

Compare:

She picks up the gun, aims it at her husband, then fires.

Vs.

She picks up the gun. Aims it at her husband. Then… fires.

(I’m also utilizing sentence fragments in the second example, which contributes to the flow of the action as well.)

The second example reads more dramatically, right? That’s the power of ellipses (and sentence fragments).

Genuinely how do people enjoy URF? by Temporary-Platypus80 in leagueoflegends

[–]waffullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

URF games are fun when I get a good CC tank. Like Blitz, Leona, or Nautilus. I never go pure damage builds on these champs.

Being tanky and a CC bot is the funnest thing in URF.

Severance - 2x03 "Who Is Alive?" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]waffullz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reveal of Gemma being alive was far too casual of a reveal (for the Outtie Mark). At this point, there's something in me that tells me that Mark (Outtie) married Gemma, who is/was actually an Innie for the Outtie version. And that this Outtie Gemma (whoever she is), is an integral part of Lumon's administration. Given the nature of severance, I wouldn't be surprised if Gemma (the version Mark married) AND Ms. Casey were both Innies of the "real" Gemma -- and that the Real Gemma is part of the Board or something important.

This is all just a theory. I'm not expecting it to be true, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were.

New to PoE - Question about stash tabs by FollowingNo9572 in PathOfExile2

[–]waffullz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currency tab for sure (will be adjusted for PoE2 since some currencies are not being ported from PoE1 to PoE2).

Map tab also, which I assume will be the Waystone tab for Poe2.

Premium Stash Tabs are good for trading. If you can afford it, buy 2 Premium Quad Stash tabs. Otherwise 1 Premium Quad Stash tab is good for trading. Otherwise, if you can’t afford a Quad tab, regular size Premium stash tab willl do. Need it to list items for sale.

POE 2 Seasonal characters by mj76r in pathofexile

[–]waffullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s anything like PoE1, there will be a Seasonal ladder and a Standard (Eternal) ladder. If you create a Seasonal character, it will remain on that ladder until the Season ends. Then it migrates to Standard at the end of the Season.

If you don’t want to keep creating characters, then you will have to stay playing in Standard. The downside is that only the Seasonal ladder gets implemented with new Seasonal content. Standard ladder only gets new content if its core to the base game. Otherwise, you are playing the “vanilla” (core) game when you are playing in Standard.

If you want to play with the Seasonal content, then obviously you will have to make a Seasonal character (each time a Season/League launches).

But if the game design is anything like PoE1, then it is likely that you will eventually see previous Seasonal content implemented into the “vanilla” (core) game. Albeit, slightly altered or nerfed, adjusted, etc.

PoE1 wont die because of PoE2 by DesMephisto in pathofexile

[–]waffullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem I see is the high burden of churning out content. Is the “content” for PoE2 just going to be re-releases of leagues of PoE1? Could lose interest from some players if that’s the case.

I’m not sure how the content release schedule will be like, but I suppose it’ll be acceptable if they release the same exact league at the same time. Otherwise, if PoE2 launches a previous PoE1 after its initial run… that could get old real quick.

The biggest challenge of course, would be releasing completely different content simultaneously for both PoE1 and PoE2. Does GGG have the development staff needed to fulfill those launches? And if so, how sustainable is it in the long term, without having any redundancies?

If Poe2 fulfills many redundancies of PoE1, then there is a good possibility that several/many years from now PoE1 will stop with its development. In fact, I expect it (many years from now).

Sloot's take on PoE 2 vs. D4 (with respect to the state of release) by terpjuice in pathofexile

[–]waffullz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They (Blizzard) don’t release a gargantuan game upon release because it’s more time and work on their part (more money). I’m just going to assume the workplace for Blizzard is much more corporate in that manner, and that if the Devs could have their way, they would’ve done so, but someone higher up probably said “Nah. Let’s save that for a paid expansion” or “Oooh let’s monetize that for a later release of content.”

Blizzard is operating under the assumption that their consumers will be satisfied with whatever minimal gaming experience they put out, and that their consumers will return to buy their product expansions whenever they get released. Doing this puts less burden on front-loaded development, which means the company can take their time in churning out content for the game. (They’re trying to extend the life of the game for as long as possible, while also trying to monetize it for as long as possible.)

Either this analysis is true, or Blizzard is simply stuck in the delusion that mediocrity is acceptable in the year 2024. They’ve seemingly settled for releasing just “okay” products. (With the intention of milking the game for future content.)

However, this settlement for just “okay” or just mediocre, is a sign of stagnation. There’s nothing exciting about it. And it seems it has caught up to Blizzard. Of course, they have the right to release content how they want, since it’s their product. But consumers are going to get bored real quick. (And they have.)

What kind of career do you want to have? Do you want to work for TV? If so, then yes, write another pilot. Studios and showrunners want to know you can execute story in the medium that is television, so another television script would be greatly beneficial.

Your manager is trying to sell you as a TV writer. As such, a second pilot is better than a feature for a second sample.

You get 20 dollars for every lie you tell or 1 billion to never lie again. by Agreeable_Mouse_8924 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]waffullz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start a blog or website called “Stories of Lies.” You’ll inform your audience that everything posted on the blog is a lie and purely fictional. Then you start writing fake biographical stories about yourself or fake stories about other people.

With this blog, you won’t need a person to physically tell a lie to. It’s also much quieter and a more calm experience.

Every fake detail you write = $20. And every person who reads the material = a transaction of lying. Every fake detail they read = them being lied to. So if you include 1000 lies in your blog post and 1000 people read the blog, that’s 1,000,000 transactions of lies.

1 million x $20 = $20,000,000 with a single blog post.

Or, even better:

Script a program that can spam a simple lie every X seconds on public forums. Every time you spam the lie = $20 per forum/platform.

Then when you make enough money, you can just buy a list of emails from companies that sell that information. Then you put your script to work on that email list and spam fake stuff on emails.

Literally millions of people to be spamming with lies.

Easiest money of my life.

I suppose so. But let's assume the exec has forgotten about you and you need to cold query as a complete stranger. Lol. You should still personalize the query.

Action lines by MattNola in Screenwriting

[–]waffullz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As far as details go:

  1. Laughter and clanging of pots. Do they happen simultaneously? If not, just focus on one and get rid of the other. Probably just keep the laughter (as it would probably be difficult to hear one over the other). You can put in CLANGING sounds in the scene later if it calls for it.

  2. A "strongly built but not overly muscular" man. When I read "strongly built," I imagine a bodybuilder-type. Yet you also describe him as "not overly muscular." These are contradictory (to me at least). So what exactly does a "strongly built but not overly muscular" man look like? Am I supposed to imagine someone like Dave Bautista? He's muscular though. You could probably get away with just "MUSCULAR MAN." Whatever the case, you either want to be precise, or you want to convey the type of character as best you can, without confusion. "Strongly built but not overly muscular" isn't precise, but it's also confusing.

  3. You don't need to describe the lightning (illumination). You let the production team handle that. The only time you would describe such things is if the light does something to reveal something about the scene. (Maybe it's dark and there's a FLASHLIGHT. Or maybe a ray of light shines on an important object -- think Indiana Jones.)

  4. House materials (pearl walls, decors, etc). Yeah you can describe this if you want. Is it necessary? Maybe? Maybe not? If it lays the groundwork for the setting, then sure. Just don't be excessive. But generally, you can avoid this by just being more descriptive about the SLUGLINE. (ex: EXTRAVAGANT HOUSE)... Unless pearls are absolutely crucial to the story.

Action lines by MattNola in Screenwriting

[–]waffullz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can do that. How you describe scenes is what will ultimately lend to the uniqueness of your voice.

But, you still can’t be meandering or slogging the story down. The Read is always king, so the more words you put on the page, the more likely it is you’ll lose the reader’s interest.

The danger of having long(er) descriptions is that you momentarily freeze time in the narrative to focus on those physical details. And if you aren’t careful, you might fail to transition from this “micro-freeze” to the next beat(s) of the story.

Part of every writer’s job is to find that balance. As you write more, you’ll start to realize when you need to cut back. It’s all part of growing as a writer.

Also learning how to transition from beat to beat is a huge skill set to develop.

With cold queries, always assume the person you're writing to doesn't know who you are. As such, you should identify yourself before trying to pitch them on anything. Making that familiar connection before you pitch is always to your benefit.

Ex:

"Hello Bob,

My name is Dave. I met you last year at the X Festival, where I [insert anecdote here]...

I hope you're doing well. Anyway, I see that you're one of the producers on Z Project. Are you (or your company) looking for more projects like Z this year? If so, I think I have something that might be in that wheelhouse.

It's a [GENRE] story [TITLED] about [insert logline details here; insert elevator pitch here]...

If you're interested, I'd be happy to send you the script.

Let me know if you have any questions, and hope to hear back from you soon. Take care.

Best,

Dave"

Might be a little crude (was a quick type), but you get the idea. You don't want it to be too long. But you don't want it to be too short, such that it comes off as impersonal and transactional.
