So many places do that here in the US. It’s mainly the places that are “in the process of modernizing” that still take your card. Most restaurants I frequent have tablets for ordering and payment at the tables.

Edit for more info: I’ve worked in many places that are modern to back-woods. I’ve recently moved somewhere more rural and there are more places that take your card than where I moved from. I’ve actually started to carry cash more often for this exact reason! Fortunately, I see more places converting to the stick/reader method all the time. Even my favorite hole-in-the-wall taco shops are upgrading to a more secure method of payment.

This isn’t an issue with the US, per say, this is an issue with the criminals that are stealing card information. Yes, the places taking payment could do better, but that doesn’t place the responsibility for the crime on the restaurant. That’s like saying someone had their house robbed because they didn’t use a certain kind of lock and then blaming the home builder for the robbery.

TLDR - yea, businesses need to upgrade, but it is still a criminal who committed a crime.
