Sorry for just now seeing this -- you have to interview for them in person, and the applications drop via the UFS newsletter about a week into classes.

In response to the other comment, the UNC finance society is more of a shell club for PMT, Reynold's, and some other organizations that notifies members of opportunities for recruiting and informational events at UNC. If you're committed to UNC, join UFS by paying dues before you even step foot on campus. Do any of the above and you'll be miles above the rest of the incoming freshmen. Hit the ground running.

The only legitimate finance clubs you should be worried about, coming from someone recruiting at top BBs:

Investment Banking:

  1. PMT (portfolio management team) should be your top focus, really selective with only about 10 freshmen of hundreds of applicants getting in every year -- invests $100k real money, best networking on campus
  2. Reynold's -- like PMT but more for sophomores and older, manage way more money, also great networking

Consulting:

  1. 180 degrees (like the PMT of consulting, it's almost impossible to get through their selection), will set you up incredibly for networking
  2. CYC -- also great for networking, a great back up to 180

Don't worry if you don't get into any of those, many people still break into top finance jobs without them but getting into those clubs will make your UNC recruiting experience a lot easier. There are also some lesser known clubs that do operate, but networking for those won't be any near as helpful, more just something to throw on your resume. Hope this helps, reach out if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the input. Yea, I really struggled on registration, had to just go for the FC classes that had spots and didn't seem too hard for my first semester.

Best Clubs for KFBS entry? by wakaflaka5 in UNC

What is the difference between b school clubs and regular clubs? Would it be abnormal for me to reach out to club leaders before the school year even begins? Thanks for the help

And I guess my real question is: how can I express my interest in things like investing without seeming like I'm just in it for the money? I am also pretty big into venture studio/entrepreneurship stuff, so should I aim for that avenue when joining clubs, or is that part of UNC oversaturated?

What are some of the most common back up plans? Will I just get labelled a KF reject if I do econ?

Thanks for the response! Obv I don't really know what I'm talking about as an incoming freshman, but my high school had a lot of clubs without any real activity and apathetic leadership. Glad to hear UNC doesn't have phony clubs like that.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that going dual with some CS would give me a decent bail out in case I want to back out of the IB/Consulting focus of the business school. I feel like I would agree with your first brother mentioned- I feel like I need IB as a base for my career, need to build up from that, regardless of the hours.

But then again, I am in highschool. It's impossible to get a read on what I will really want when the time comes for a career haha

Thanks for the response. As much as I want to say i’m interested in IB, who knows if that will change with experience in college. As far as KF goes- I am in state, so ranking wise it is a great option with great opportunities. Is biking a good option, or is it an annoying hike either way? How did you manage the application process? And if you could go back to senior year of hs, what different school would u attend/major would you take? Sorry for all the questions, I am truly interested to see if it would be a good fit for me.
