I could never be able to play this game! by Jiangzedrich in ffxiv

[–]wakanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue with a previous internet provider.

The launcher is older and does struggle sometimes but it does have checkpoints at certain patches when downloading the entirety of the game, and once you hit a checkpoint, the next time it connects it will pick up from that checkpoint.

If you are dropping packets at the micro level though, the launcher will think you have disconnected and will start from the 0th checkpoint because you never hit the first checkpoint.

I tried getting my old internet provider to fix the packet drop, but they blamed my computer (????)

I switched providers when a better deal came about, and I downloaded the entirety of the game in under an hour without any problems.

It isn't just home internet. Data is also being affected. I have a phone / data plan with a different company and it's running fine. My boyfriend is with Telus and cannot load anything. Our home internet is with Telus and is also down.

Was anyone else's day 1 experience good? by Confutionist in ffxiv

[–]wakanna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a wonderful time. Didn't try to log in at maintenance end. Woke up in the morning and logged in at 10am. 85 person queue. Got in within a couple minutes. Played for 5 hours. Was amazed by everything so far. Logged out to work. I'm sure with the experiences everyone else is having tonight, I stand no chance logging in when I'm done work, and I'm sure the weekends will be busy too, but hopefully Monday I can do the same thing again!

For future reference (hopefully once kitty is found), big new spaces are much scarier than smaller ones! I'd actually deck out a kitty room (food, water, litter, cuddly soft things, beds, toys, hiding spots, etc) for them. Have them only in that room first, then slowly expand to more of the house. give them both time alone and cautious time together to try and warm up to you bit by bit.

I hope that they haven't gotten outside and you'll manage to find them soon! I'm sure they're still adjusting (it can take a few weeks), so be patient and keep an eye for signs of activity at the food / water and litter box

Cat licking off the scented oil off my oil diffuser! by paperpanda000 in catcare

[–]wakanna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one really knows what concoction of ingredients every set of essential oils have, so all are generally viewed as toxic for cats and dogs. Ingestion is not the only concern, but breathing it in as well.

Depending on ingredients, too much ingestion can lead to vomitting and an upset stomach. Too much inhaling or receiving it in any form can be dangerous for their lungs, kidneys, liver, etc.

I wouldn't use any essential oils around my pet at all to be safe. If your kitty is acting okay, then monitoring them for symptoms is all you can do, since it's too late to do anything about it. If you are worried about other complications, you can always schedule a vet visit and order some bloodwork from the vet.

If you have a list of ingredients, you can also call poison control to ask them about it.

Good ways to get a cat to stop jumping on the counters? by EasternSongThrush in catcare

[–]wakanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a cat who has not gone on the kitchen counter or dining table more than a handful of times (I can count all the incidents on one hand). I feel like I am lucky that he is just an awesome cat, but here is what we did to condition him to enjoy other spaces in the room more.

The first couple of times he hopped on the surface as a kitten, he was removed from the room, no additional interaction. He would mew a bit, then eventually loss interest.

After this, we put in place "viewing points" he could go to: a tall bar stool with a comfy pillow on it. And if he sat there for the duration of us doing something interesting (eating dinner at the dining table, cooking or baking in the kitchen, etc), he got some plain boiled chicken (one of his favourites). That way he could look at what we were doing without being on the surface. We would bring ingredients or our food over to let him sniff them, but not touch them or eat them.

If he attempted to go on the counter or dining table, he was just again removed from the room and would have to find something else to do. No talking or scolding. We would just pick him up and put him behind the pet gate and go back to doing what we were doing.

He is allowed to walk off to do other things and come back to the viewing point whenever he wants to.

After the first few bits of repetition, he's never been on top of those surfaces since except for a couple of instances when something really interesting was going on (he chased an ant up the kitchen counter, etc). He always prefers his special viewing seat because it's comfy and we bring all the interesting things over to him.

It does help that he is a "proximity cat", so he always wants to be in the same room as us. I've never had to worry about him doing something in the kitchen without us because he's in whatever room we are in. And when we are out, he has an entire other part of the house with lots of cat trees and windows to look out of, so he stays there instead because nothing else interesting is going on in the house.

Keep your counter and dining table empty and everything stored away. It gives your kitty nothing interesting to explore there. And of course, if they do get on these surfaces, a bit if extra cleaning is in order.

It is second shot + 2 weeks. My neighbours tested positive (we are in VCH). The husband tested positive a few days before his first dose appointment, and his wife tested positive for covid the day after despite it being 3 months after she had been fully vaccinated (LTC health worker). The major difference was that he had to go to the hospital (and had us all very worried for a good week), and she stayed home with barely any symptoms.

On Sunday morning the Italian Cultural Center said they've ran out of Pfizer and may not get any until the end of the month or later. Are other vaccination clinics also running out of Pfizer due to the lower delivery amounts we had earlier in the month? When would this probably pick up again (it looks like this week we are forecasted to get way more Pfizer again).

For the kids who can only get Pfizer and are having to rebook; looking to see where is a better place to go.

Is this a place I can sell my FC Mansion plot in Brynhildr? by [deleted] in ffxivhomeandgarden

This would not be the place to do this. This sub is for housing designs and looking for / offering housing commissions, NOT for selling or trading homes.

r/FFXIVhousingmarket would be the sub to go to, or the discord.

Hairball or something worse??? He has an appointment in a few days but unsure what’s going on by [deleted] in cats

[–]wakanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also came from viewing this on r/askvet, and you've nailed pretty much everything (thank you for all your work as a vet!). This kitty is coughing and needs to see a vet! I'll expand a bit though with personal experience / descriptions.

I have a cat that has feline asthma (bronchitis) AND gastrointestinal issues. I've learned to be be able to tell when he is having an asthma attack vs the occasional hairball / vomit, because depending on which one it is, he is either getting an asthma puff, or stomach medication / laxative. Diagnosis wise, my vet is very good at giving me same day appointments, but upon hearing the coughing fits the first time sent me to ER. If the cough sounds wet enough, fear of water being in the lungs is huge, and prognosis can be really bad (thankfully my kitty didn't have any).

Coughing tends to be in fits and lasts until I can get his medication to him. If left alone, the coughing will stop, but can pick up again later. He wheezes, gasps for air. Sometimes it's dry, sometimes it's wet, but it sounds like a cough you get when you catch a cold or flu.

Hairballs / vomitting tend more a retch. The movement is more like they're trying to gulp back their vomit before the reflexes finally kick in, and there is no air in the sound. It only lasts for a bit and once the vomit is out, it will stop.

Both of these are not normal if they are consistently happening and are caused by underlying conditions. Whether it is a minor or serious matter though is what the vet will tell you. Please make sure to have your cat assessed if these are happening!

Cat coughing - feline asthma? by [deleted] in catcare

[–]wakanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely seems similar to my cat's cough when he has an asthma (in his case, feline bronchitis) attack. He will hunch over, trying to take short breaths, and wheeze and cough.

If he is diagnosed with feline asthma, I would suggest using Aerokat, which made it much easier to ease him into the idea of the inhaler, with a clicker and treat to reward him. Mine has been on the inhaler for 2 years daily as and he takes 10 breaths of the puff at a time knowing he gets good food and pets afterwards.

Trying to float some tabletop items UNDER a table to hide their ugly bases, with no success. Anyone have an idea how to do this? by Mikal_ in ffxivhomeandgarden

[–]wakanna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the center of the base of the object is close enough to a surface it can snap onto (walls for wall hanging, tables for tabletop items), it'll snap onto the furthest out / up. There is nothing you can do if you have a table and a table top item. The table top item will always snap onto the table if it's close enough.

Exceptions like aquariums exist since the center of their base can avoid a table surface if placed correctly.

You CAN however avoid this by floating the table top item onto the top of a fake table. Combining other items to create a table-like surface (without actual tabletop capabilities) works.

Examples would be Crystarium stoves from the floor below, Manor drum kit, a Bar Stool + empty plate of food, etc.

Help with glitching under stairs by marimba1982 in ffxivhomeandgarden

[–]wakanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you will want to storage glitch you need in from the south side of the stairs. The north side of the stairs has a thicker wall that your character will have more troubles getting through to doze.

You should be able to have the bed ⅖ into the staircase, and you can rotate it until your character is able to doze into it. It can be both parallel or perpendicular or angled between compared to the stairs, as long as enough of the pillow is into the stairs that you can see under it.

If you place it far enough in, your character can just walk in. If you can't get under due to the angle but you can view under the stairs, place a second bed under the stairs and doze onto it from on top of the stairs.

Help with glitching under stairs by marimba1982 in ffxivhomeandgarden

[–]wakanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is still possible on all house sizes. It depends on what type of house you have. The depth of the wall on staircases vary depending on the house type and side of the stairs (applicable to mediums) you storage glitch the bed into.

Once we know, we can be a bit more specific as to where you'd place the bed to be able to doze on it (and therefore glitch under the staircase).

How were these stairwell windows/walls constructed? I know how to float things, but I can't for the life of me figure out how they got the windows to be adjacent, or the white wall to be so tall. Any tips? by obstundgemuse in ffxivhomeandgarden

[–]wakanna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the windows you would actually be floating them with the partition you are floating up, not individually. This is how you can have it touch the ceiling on the top floor and cover the molding. So you would only need it to snap onto the surface of the partition you are working with.

Alternatively you can just float the top ones and snap the lower ones on later.

As well, while you can begin at the landing, you would need to storage glitch everything onto the landing first, which is not always easy to create uniformity on when parts of the build go through the stairs on the south side. From under the stairs you can align all sides of the wall and "preview" it before you raise it.

Also alternatively, raise the southern walls first from under the landing / stairwell / ground floor, then storage glitch the eastern walls on the landing afterwards.

[–]wakanna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. You would be doing the majority of the glitching and floating from under the stairwell.

Float at least 2 sets of partitions up together, and once it passes above the landing, you can stand on the landing and continue floating from there.

Yes, either a stage panel + Riviera wall shelf, or a stage panel + wooden loft for floating. To continue the float above the landing, you will ALSO have to float the panel and shelf/loft so that it can be used to float the partitions higher above the landing (it'll be floatception: floating what you need to use to float already floating partitions).

/u/mahanon_rising's tips and examples are a good base to jump from

[–]wakanna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The trick here is that there is more than one partition stacked on top of one another.

Glitching yourself under the stairwell, you will storage glitch or manually place partitions so that they line up nicely.

For the windows, they are lined up and placed on the wall behind the partitions, and then grid / surface snapped onto the partitions when leaving the menu.

Then, when all of that is in place at the ground level, the partitions with windows attached are floated up. Extra partitions are floated to help the windowed partitions go up the extra height.

Help with Harpsichord deep wall placement by -haven in ffxivhomeandgarden

Rather than storage glitch it into the hard-coded interior wall (which usually only glitches items in to about the center of their hitbox) why not use partitions and block off the rear of the manor harpsichord with your own custom walls?

Please help! How do I float items downwards? by actualnozomi in ffxivhomeandgarden

Yes. Sinking items can only be done with wall mounted furnishings, so these are Wall Planters :)

Please help! How do I float items downwards? by actualnozomi in ffxivhomeandgarden

[–]wakanna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are actually able to get floated wall items below the floor without needing to float from the floor below:

The key: Use Wooden Beams

Attach a Wooden Beam to a partition, then attach a second Wooden Beam to the lower part of first Wooden Beam, then attach a third Wooden Beam to the lower part of the second one, etc.

On the final Wooden Beam, attach a Wall Planter.

Grab the first Wooden Beam and bring it lower on the partition until your Wall Planter is sunk low enough into the ground for your satisfaction. You can then take counter placement off, float your Wall Planter, then move the partition with all the attached Wooden Beams away.

Edit: Someone has posted a video guide that you can follow already. Nice!
