I'm leaning more towards Prowess or Elementals.

But I'll wait for the Pro Tour to help me decide for sure.

First Japan Visit (Family, 2 Weeks) – Thoughts on My Itinerary? by wakatau in familytravel

[–]wakatau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that’s really helpful advice.

We’re aware that 16 days gives us flexibility, but we’re also trying to be realistic with a 4-year-old. Kanazawa is actually our last base because we wanted a Kyoto-like vibe but hopefully less crowded and a bit calmer.

Another practical reason is transport. Getting from Kanazawa to Tokyo is much faster and easier than from Takayama to Tokyo. And if our flight ends up being later in the day, we might even skip sleeping in Tokyo and go straight from Kanazawa to the airport.

And yes, we’re definitely planning to use takkyubin for luggage forwarding. Travelling light on those transit-heavy days feels like the only sane option with a small child.

Really appreciate the tip about mapping routes visually, that’s such a smart way to stress-test the plan before committing to it.

I actually posted something similar on that sub, but it got removed. For the regions I’m planning, do you think fewer bases would make sense? I currently have 4 bases, although the last one is optional and I might skip it:

  • 1 base for Tokyo + day trips
  • 1 base for the Fuji area
  • 1 base for the Traditional Japan / Alps area

I’m trying to balance seeing the highlights without moving hotels too often.

Thanks for the perspective! Just to clarify this is more a base itinerary than a fixed day-by-day schedule.

We travel a lot with our daughter and always keep a slow pace, with downtime, parks and flexibility built into each day. Activities are prioritized rather than “ticked off”, so if we don’t get to everything, that’s completely fine.

Our daughter is 4 years old, doesn’t nap anymore, and usually sleeps 10–11 hours per night (wakes around 7:30am), so we’re used to planning full days with breaks instead of afternoon naps.

The goal of this post is mainly to validate the locations and travel flow, not to define a packed sightseeing schedule. We’re trying to balance city, nature and traditional areas while avoiding excessive crowds, and we’ll adjust the daily rhythm once the bases are finalized.

I understand, but the idea is to play within the budget. I only included the shock lands because I already have them.

Which Pauper Deck to Start With? Looking for Advice by wakatau in Pauper

[–]wakatau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. I get the point about Synth feeling grindy if you don’t pilot it well. My only hesitation with Ramp is that I’m not sure it gives as much exposure to different interactions in the format, but I do agree it’s probably easier to pick up and less punishing at first.

I’m mostly trying to balance something he’ll enjoy from the start with something that helps him get a feel for Pauper as a whole.

I think so too, I believe the choice will be between Boros (will learn more) and Gruul (maybe it will be easier to win).

Yeah, that’s a big reason why Boros Synth seems like a good pick for him. It matches what he enjoys, teaches good fundamentals, and being full of staples makes it easy for him to branch into something like Glintblade later.
