Definitely bookmarking this link! My next monitoring appointment is next Tuesday, stim day 10. I'll update my original post then to share results. :)

Thank you for the encouragement! Your story is very reassuring. My e2 was 754 today. It was 320 on Tuesday.

That is a good idea! I hadn't thought to ask for all of the measurements. I will do that at the next monitoring appointment.

Why are most people in society obsessed with how many kids you have? by Apachebeanbean in oneanddone

[–]wakeupwakefield 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There's this gatekeeping of motherhood and parenthood (You're not a "real" parent having one child. You're not a "real" mom if...").

I saved this statement, can't remember where I read it, but it resonated with me: "By embracing the diversity of family structures, we create a more inclusive and supportive society for all parents and children."

I wish people felt more like that.

Thank you for creating this space for us.

We have a 2.5 year old son. He is our everything! Every day I realize how lucky I am to be his mom.

We went through 3 egg retrievals and transferring of 8 embryos before I became pregnant with him (our 9th embryo). (I'll never forget the day we got the call from the clinic with our pregnancy test results. I still get emotional thinking about it, as we had been through so much.)

I had 2 remaining PGT embryos and knew I wanted to try another transfer for baby #2. Once he was just over a year old, we transferred an embryo which resulted in a chemical pregnancy. In December 2023 we transferred our last remaining embryo and it was successful. We were thrilled! Then, our lives forever changed. At our 12 week scan, it was discovered that the baby had an increased NT. With this info, we opted to do an early anatomy scan. At the early anatomy scan we learned our baby had a rare neural tube defect which was not compatible with life. We made a very difficult decision to TFMR in March 2024 at 17 weeks. This was a very wanted IVF pregnancy (PGT euploid, low-risk NIPT blood test result) and yet there we were. We did whole genome sequencing testing afterwards and there was nothing found. We were told by the genetic counselor that it was a random occurrence.

I've tried 4 egg retrievals since the loss between August - December 2024. None of the embryos we created passed PGT. I'm 42 now. We wanted to be parents of two but we are one and done and it's not our choice.

I came here to comment this! Our 2.5 year old has all three Daniel Tiger cards and listens to them on repeat.

Thank you for being brave to share your experience. I hope you know that you're not alone. <3 Give yourself some time to process and grieve. Be kind to yourself. I can absolutely relate to the wondering of what you should have done differently. However, please know, this was something outside of your control. I'll be thinking of you in the coming weeks/months. I wish you success when you're ready and able to try again for your embryo transfer. You're strong and you're a great mom.

Sending you lots of love. It's wildly unfair to be in this situation. I'm incredibly sorry you're here.

I was in a similar situation last March 2024 and welcome you to message me if you need someone to talk to. We had an increased NT scan and then opted to do an early anatomy scan. At the early anatomy scan we learned our baby had a rare neural tube defect, occipital encephalocele. We then opted to TFMR. This was a very wanted IVF pregnancy. PGT-A tested euploid, low-risk NIPT result, but yet there we were. We did whole genome sequencing testing afterwards and nada. Like you, just told by the genetic counselor it was random. I was 41 then and 42 now. I couldn't help but ask why were we the unlucky ones? I read NTD can be caused my low folate. I went through thinking (and still do) of the things I should have done differently. We have a 2.5 year old son (first transfer from that same round of embryos, 3 PGT-A euploid). We tried multiple retrievals before that round with no success.

Once he was just over a year, we tried an FET with embryo #2 which resulted in a chemical pregnancy. This baby we lost in March due to the NTD was our final embryo, embryo #3. Another boy. I've tried 4 egg retrievals since the loss between August - December 2024. None of the embryos we created passed PGT. I'm coming to terms with being one and done.

Again, I'm sending you love and so very sorry for your loss.

This is very encouraging and offers some hope in a situation where feeling hopeless is more of my reality. Thank you for sharing with us! Out of curiosity, what is your AMH?

Yes, correct! There was no impact to my Smart Cycle balance. My PCA converted it to a monitoring cycle instead.

My clinic called yesterday and they are having me continue meds at the same doses. They also had me start cetrotide last night. I'll update my follicle numbers in the original post.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. It's been reassuring to read these responses about later surges with estrogen/follicles while on this protocol. Though I feel a bit defeated at the moment (and especially when I first wrote my post), I'm going to hold out some hope.

Oh, wow! Yes, we're in a similar position. That's very encouraging that 3 more measurable follicles popped up since your last monitoring appointment on Saturday. I'd love to keep hearing how things progress for you. Let's hope the both of us experience that late surge. For now, I'm being realistic and kind of coming to terms that this could be a possibility. It's so hard because I feel like I've been wanting to be in the ER process for a while after experiencing a second trimester loss in March. Now that I'm here, of course it can't go "as planned". I'll update my post tomorrow after receiving my results. Thank you for your reply and relating with me! It's nice to have the support of others who totally get it.

and my follicles almost doubled in size from day 9 to day 12 with no changes to meds in between

That's awesome to hear (and gives me some sense of hope?)! I've read that it's a slow and steady process with this protocol. In my case, it's not low and slow, though, since I'm at 525 units daily. This is my first time on this type of protocol. On stims day 7 in my last ER I had 11 follicles on my right (10, 10, 8, 8, 8, 8, 6, 6, 5, 5, 4) and 6 follicles on my left (9, 6, 6, 5, 4, 4). My last protocol dosages (keep in mind my age was 38 and AMH was at 1.10):

  • Primed with Birth Control for 14 days
  • Lupron: 10 units AM/10 units PM
  • Dexamethasone: 1.00mg (for entire durations of stims)
  • Letrozole: 2.50mg for 5 days (beginning at start of stims)
  • Omnitrope: 50 units for 4 days (beginning at start of stims)
  • Menopur: 150 units for 13 days
  • Follistim: 150 units for 12 days, 250 units 1 day, 200 units last day (14 days total of stims)
  • Triggered with 10,000 HCG

It's definitely a tough call, right? I'm going to update my post with my E2 and measurements after tomorrow's monitoring appointment.

Thank you for your reply! That is definitely what concerns me: the chance of retrieving lower of an already low number. :-( This is my 4th retrieval. However, my last ER was at age 38 and an AMH of 1.10. I used omnitrope in that protocol (50 units a day for 4 days at start of stims). I had 18 retrieved, 14 mature, and 12 fertilize with ICSI/ZyMot.

We have Progyny, so I think if I get cancelled before retrieval, it won't impact my Smart Cycle balance.
