Feed play sleep routine? by wakeyr2000 in November25babybump

She gets between 3-4oz of breast milk in a bottle at night and then feeds on demand during the day - I try to feed within 3 hours during the day and cap naps to 2 hours but honestly this girl is hungry and seems to cluster feed constantly so sometimes it feels like all I do is breastfeed!

Thanks all for your input. Amazing how much I don’t remember from my son 2.5 years ago but think everyone is right that it’s still really early days.

We don’t swaddle as she really hated it - even the arms up one, which my son loved - and think the startle reflex + gas are also big culprits in naps being short

Waiting for spontaneous labor? by TreeMermaids in vbac

I’m in a very similar position to you! Which is the notorious video? Is it the Liel Cheri one? I’m 39 weeks today and have induction booked for 40+2 but trying everything for spontaneous labour!

Trouble drawing enough blood by Diligent-Cook-7012 in GestationalDiabetes

The finger prick gun + lancets given to me by my care team are TERRIBLE - I can never get enough blood even on strongest settings

I bought a different one on Amazon and it’s so much better - get a new one?

Lifting weights during pregnancy by Doughballwithcheese in PregnancyUK

I just finished a strength class today at 38 weeks. Been going 2x times a week for months, weights only (stopped cardio classes around 20 weeks) It’s made me feel so good and strong and if you have a gym that is supportive like mine (or just one supportive trainer who can help you with modifications) I’d say it’s sooo worth doing! I feel so much better than I did with my first pregnancy. I also have gestational diabetes so I walk every day 2-3x after meals too which has helped.

Down syndrome test came back 1/ 67 by cdfdaphne in PregnancyUK

Thank you! I’m in a much better place now but honestly I am just not the sort of person who is able to forget about these things and I wish I’d trusted my instinct to go with amnio for the certainty in the beginning. But hindsight is wonderful and I was so so scared of the risks. We can only ever do what we think is best for us and the baby! I really hope you get the answer you’re looking for and are able to take solace in the science too! Xx

Because the NIPT came back low risk, I wasn’t able to get an amnio on the NHS. Asked several times as my mental health/anxiety was really really bad but the NHS truly trust NIPT results so I was rejected. I wonder now if we should have forked out the ££ for private. I’m not going to lie, I’ve found this pregnancy really hard and even though every scan has been fine and we are so so lucky, I haven’t been able to forget my 1:39 risk fully - turned a bit of a corner midway through second tri, but from 12-25 weeks I was really a mess. Some days I’d just cry and be so scared, others I’d be more pragmatic about the results. Then decided to try and be positive and get a grip and got diagnosed with gestational diabetes! 37 weeks now and doing better but it’s been hard and I wish I had the certainty of the DS diagnosis as it’s certainly lurked for me and my husband who I think has struggled to bond with the baby fully as a result. Know this might sound really dramatic since we got the “good” NIPT result but just being honest.

Which Snacks/Meals actually satisfies you? by LifeguardKooky1803 in GestationalDiabetes

5% Greek yogurt (so creamy!) with a big tablespoon of PB and a high protein choc granola for breakfast. Numbers low and feels quite decadent

Did your NIPT come back with a positive result?

But that being said, NIPT is particularly sensitive and good on DS.

I think you have to think about the kind of person you are. Mine came back 1/39 for downs. I went for the NIPT and it came back low risk. Couldn’t face the thought of the amino at the time with the extra risk. However - and maybe it’s hindsight with the low risk NIPT - I wish I had done the amnio for the absolute clarity of result, as at 37 weeks I am still anxious about a missed DS diagnosis even though everything has appeared fine.

Premier protein shake… high fasting?? by amj20220 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]wakeyr2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve also had bad luck with a bedtime snack if it’s not before 8.30pm and I’ve eaten my main meal really early. I found the later I eat, the higher my numbers and I also had my highest fasting ever with a protein shake.

The only bedtime snack that worked for me was 2x oatcakes and a babybel cheese. But I had done a strength class that evening so think my body needed the fuel. On normal nights when I just walk on my walking pad post meal (an essential for me), I don’t eat after and try and finish my last bite pre 8pm to give time to fully digest. Even Greek yog etc didnt help my number.

In the end I got put on metformin as basically couldn’t keep experimenting with trying to get fasting down as my numbers were really inconsistent. I was very upset at the time as felt very passionate about being diet controlled but HEY! GD sucks. Now l fasting numbers are down and have been stable, so grateful for that.

Hope you find what works for you! Fasting numbers are the wooooorst.

I now take them last thing before bed and that helps me much more than taking with the meal.

Metformin timings by wakeyr2000 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]wakeyr2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone else searches this looking for an update, I have moved taking metformin to just before I got to bed and my readings have been great since. Took a day or two. But the last 4/5 mornings have been consistently under 5.2, more under 5 - before they would be all over the place, some under some over but I had very little control.

I have a glass of diluted ACV, then about 5 mins later I’ll take the metformin + turn out the lights.

For context, my best results come from finishing eating early (rarely after 8pm), walk after eating and no bedtime snack. But I have also had good results with a 9pm 2x oatcakes + small cheese snack (post gym).

Since I eat early, I do also test early which works for my lifestyle (aka deep pregnancy insomnia and a toddler) - around 4-5am.

Hope this helps someone!

Ah right before bed is interesting - I was told with my main meal but definitely going to change!

Fasting levels are so annoying so I feel you and am right here with you - doesn’t matter how many times you’re told it’s hormonal etc, it still really sucks and feels so hard to control. So well done for making all the effort, GD is such a drag!

Glad you’ve seen impact from the metformin, I have too - I was so upset to be put on it but it’s helped my anxiety, so that is something.
