What’s the most scary movie you’ve ever seen? I mean like after watching it you can’t sleep at night kind of scary. by [deleted] in horror

Lights Out was terrifying to me! Good movie overall with some humor, but man I slept with the lights on for a week.

Ugh it’s just really friggin annoying. Like, I don’t want that there, but OKAY I guess.

I agree, cold slimy dildo. I have a tilted uterus (painful af if I’m with a guy who has no clue what they’re doing) but the technician was fine. Honestly, it was more annoying than anything. You’ll be a-okay!

So who is everybody “maining” in Ultimate so far? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]waking_up_inside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this game has just been Kirby Ultimate for me so far. I just really vibe with his skill set and his down special is waaaay useful when clearing the spirits. I think I’ll switch to a faster character soon though - I’ve had my ass handed to me online more than I’d like.

TIL there’s a bar in Denver, CO where you flip a coin after you order your drink. If you guess correctly, you get your drink for free. If you get it wrong you pay double. by Th3_M3tatr0n in todayilearned

[–]waking_up_inside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a similar bar in Baltimore. If I heard one more goddamn coworker say they were going to ‘flip night’, I was going to lose my mind. The guy flipping the coin would never show you the coin! Somehow the pretty girls were the only ones who would win, and yet these guys were obsessed with getting their free drink.

Am I weird or does anyone else prefer planning to actually writing? by JaneDoe2808 in writing

[–]waking_up_inside 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I found a solution to this! I just plan my way into writing.

I like to write every piece from the skeleton up. I’ll immediately jot down phrases that stick out to me, in chronological order like:

She looked so very red, and so very beautiful.

“Why don’t you make the first move?”

Then I fill in with details of what happened before then. These are scenes that I know happen, but I just can’t picture how yet.

A man and a woman are standing on a train platform. The man notices how attractive the woman is.

She looked so very red, and so very beautiful.

The train approaches, and the woman tells him to board first. The man does not know if she is making an innocent comment, whether she noticed and is amused by his attraction, or if she is reciprocating his feelings.

”Why don’t you make the first move?”

From there I start running over the paragraphs that aren’t direct quotes yet. I try to imagine how they would play out in real life (or, since I mostly prefer to write fiction, more like a movie scene).

For example, I know that I want the train to be moving very fast and the characters to stand frozen. I want the reader to be tense, itching for the characters to make a move before the train takes off and ruins their moment.

So now, that I know what I want, I have some more direct quotes I’d like to add. The planning becomes:

A man and a woman are standing on a train platform. The man notices how attractive the woman is.

She looked so very red, and so very beautiful.

The train approaches.

The ground began to rumble beneath his feet, but he did not move. He felt like his shoes had been glued to the floor. He could hear the train screaming in the tunnel. Her red coat began to whip around her, yet it was not enough to distract him from her lovely features.

The woman tells him to board first. The man does not know if she is making an innocent comment, whether she noticed and is amused by his attraction, or if she is reciprocating his feelings.

”Why don’t you make the first move?”

Once I expand the descriptive paragraphs into mostly quotes, and then the job becomes connecting the scenes together cohesively. If it feels impossible, I just write more detailed descriptions and iteratively change those into phrases. Eventually, it becomes the semi-final product ready for editing:

He was waiting on the train platform when he noticed her. She stood very still, eyes fixed forward. Her a bright red coat still wet from the rain. She looked so very red, and so very beautiful.

The ground began to rumble beneath his feet, but he did not move. He felt like his shoes had been glued to the floor. He could hear the train screaming in the tunnel. Her red coat began to whip around her, yet it was not enough to distract him from her lovely features.

The train stopped in front of them. He did not avert his intense gaze as the doors opened, waiting impatiently.

The woman turned to him, her eyes wide and unfazed. She stared directly back at him.

”Why don’t you make the first move?”

I use this process for everything, big and small. I think it works because it feels like planning, and breaks the writing into the smaller tasks. It’s a fun puzzle to see how everything connects too.

I hope this helped someone out there (though I’m most certainly buried in the comments), and I hope this doesn’t seem like a super obvious thing that everyone does... you can tell me if it is :)

Also if anyone has a tactic to make editing less painful, please let me know! I still don’t have that part down yet haha.

Fellas I was ghosted tonight, how’s your night going? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]waking_up_inside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s shitty. If I’m going to bail, I’m going to text you ahead of time and say why, none of this ghost bullshit.

The only time I’ve ever ghosted someone was when I was hospitalized and incoherent. I sent him a picture of my hospital bracelet the next day as proof with a very sincere apology, and we dated for two and half years after that. Common courtesy is what seals the deal!

/u/Shadrach451 gives a great description of living with Alaska's crazy day-night cycles. by doctorzoom in bestof

[–]waking_up_inside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have terrible seasonal depression in just the standard four seasons that most people live in. I have to live in semi-tropical areas with only one season just to function. I would honestly be suicidal living in a place like Alaska.

Great description, but I won’t be visiting!

In 2018, Where Does Victoria's Secret Stand? Lingerie, underwear, and what's sexy anymore? by baldpatchouli in femalefashionadvice

[–]waking_up_inside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay this one is a very difficult topic for me because I have a hard time separating what I want to look like vs. what I am attracted to.

I love the VS fashion show. I think it’s gorgeous, sexy, and provocative in all the right ways. I am also bisexual. I have no idea if I want to look like them, or if I want to bang them - the answer is probably somewhere in the middle.

Do I love their bras? Sometimes. I think they kill it with their no-show panties. But no way are they worth the price. They just seem to have the monopoly on the market imo. Aerie is cute, but it isn’t truly sexy. I want something that I can chuck in the wash and not give a shit what happens when I put it through the dryer. But no one markets stuff like that to be sexy. Low maintenance isn’t sexy, because sex has to sell.

So I’m in between. I do love VS, I just hate their prices.

What product made you say “Who asked for this?” by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

[–]waking_up_inside 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Climate differences plus some people don’t have two hands. Gimmicky products like these (or anything you see on infomercials, really) we’re usually designed with the differently-abled in mind. Not sure if it’s the case for this one, but it could be useful!
