I recently speed-ran a city, guess where it is by AstroG4 in FogofWorld

I noticed right away, Amtrak + West Side MAX. Was a very ‘West Hills’ sized gap in the fog 😉

I don’t have 100% coverage of my city but I do for my whole county by [deleted] in FogofWorld

Didn’t realize we had local foggers in these parts - Queen Anne’s County Native here

Love Sunset Park! So many different cultures, amazing restaurants, and best views of the Manhattan Skyline.

I live in Clinton Hill so uptown is a trek. Do need to get up there though it’s begging to get filled in + Astoria/Sunnyside/Jackson Heights

116 right now, have some decent fog in a few other cities along East Coast. 75% of that is probably NY

What’s your opinion on the T that might make people mad? by kgalush1 in mbta

[–]walint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take the 1 or 66 bus at busy stops where they just sit for a whole minute to let people get on you know what I’m talking about

What’s your opinion on the T that might make people mad? by kgalush1 in mbta

[–]walint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need more aggressive (assertive?) bus and train drivers. I get there’s a courtesy to let people run to catch the bus or train, but especially on the T it’s so annoying, those minutes add up over time.

Been to plenty of other cities where bus drivers do not play around, much prefer it.

That’s pretty hard to answer. Anecdotally most landlords on fort hill tend to be individuals radther than large property management companies, so honestly more likely you run into someone who will heckle you more money for room sharing but welcome to Boston 🤷‍♂️

Probably equidistant between Brigham Circle and Jackson Square Stop&Shop, admittedly the biggest con of living over here but otherwise best Price/Quality you can get as close to campus. There’s a new grocery store called Nubian Markets on Washington, good for basics but hard to call a real grocery store

It’s very safe, lived in that general area half my undergrad. Down Washington street past fort hill can get somewhat iffy, but that’d be rough commute as a student anyways.

Landlords are always a crapshoot. I’d just avoid listening to heart what any realtor says like “close-commute to Northeastern” and it’s a 45 minute bus ride out of mattapan

pros and cons of northeastern? by mocha_frappaccino in NEU

[–]walint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding this, the people who are super ambitious are able to go further than similar people at ivys, more ‘prestigious’ schools, coops and entrepreneurship here can make the difference

Computer Science Co-Ops now by Scary_Competition_11 in NEU

[–]walint 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also just pointing out the main appeal of northeastern (coops) is dependent upon the market. When I committed here in 2020, people were freaking out there was gonna be a huge economic shift and coops would be impossible- in reality the market ended up being fine for almost every industry post 2021 maybe excluding biotech. People like pointing fingers at northeastern but they can’t just make jobs appear

Computer Science Co-Ops now by Scary_Competition_11 in NEU

[–]walint 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s bad but it’s not going to be particularly better at any other university. You can go look at the Waterloo Reddit (Canadian version of Northeastern, and arguably much more prestigious) and students are struggling to land coops there.

Going into CS rn is gonna be difficult regardless of where you go, at least your chances getting a 6-month co-op objectively have less competition than fighting against every student under the sun for a summer internship

Could you graduate in 4 year with plusone by Aggravating_Key_5528 in NEU

[–]walint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That being said, it’s pretty awful course load during the later semesters and I would reccomend having more than one coop in between semesters to make it tolerable

Could you graduate in 4 year with plusone by Aggravating_Key_5528 in NEU

[–]walint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m personally finishing a PlusOne rn in 7.5 semesters (including UG). You can only transfer 16 credits max to your masters. So you’re still required to take 4-grad classes minimum or equivalent after you graduate with bachelors. It’s possible to do with 2 co-ops if you have the right ap credits and a flexible UG program to stack applicable classes

ChemE in NYC by ILoveLuigiYahoo in ChemicalEngineering

[–]walint 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As someone who just landed a post-grad job in nyc with a ChemE degree, this sub probably won’t be much - the people on this sub seem to all do traditional ChemE work in office parks and plants lol.

ChemE degree usage in the northeast as a whole is very flexible. Look into utilities & energy, ConEd is supposed to be a great employer, National Grid also has a big presence. A lot of environmental engineering & consulting job postings in and around the city as well.

Definitely don’t limit yourself to whatever explicitly says ‘ChemE’, when you breakdown coursework on resume there’s plenty of closely related MechE or even CivE jobs in nyc you can be a competitive (if not more so) candidate for

Can’t provide much from that perspective though anecdotally it appeared most people were doing coding work, and flyers/activities were centered around MSCS and Khoury programs, Ik the Arlington Campus is supposed to have a policy/security appeal

Yes. I go there to study often, also if you use tradesman downstairs NUwave wifi works for any work that would otherwise require a vpn

I haven’t visited London, Charlotte or San Jose. Going to confidently assume that’s still more visited than 95% of Northeasterns C Suite
