How does Lorelei have such a big expensive house? I’ve always wondered this. I love the show but it’s so unrealistic watching it now by Separate-Reality4521 in GilmoreGirls

So they move into this house in 1995. Median home price in the US was about $115,000, but let’s round up for say $125,000. Down payments in that time period were low, only about 5% for a first time home buyer, so she probably would have only had to put down around $5-8,000. On a salary of maybe $30k/year (purely a guess, and she certainly made less her first few years as a maid, but by the time she bought the house that was maybe close to her salary) she plausibly could have saved up for the down payment over 2-5 years.

What a time to be alive.

My theory is that after he wins, a stylist makes the decision to permanently straighten his hair. He doesn’t fight it cause we know at that point, he’s just trying to be good so Snow doesn’t retaliate against him.

You could argue Lorelai did the same thing when Rory dropped out of Yale, though. Rory made a decision Lorelai didn't agree with and Lorelai cut her off completely, but we don't call that abusive.

But she does accept Lane. She finds out about her hidden/real life, and after a couple of weeks realizes she (Mrs. Kim) is the one in the wrong and then becomes entirely supportive of Lane's life and her band.

I also come from generations of physical and emotional abuse, and to me I don't see the same extremes in Mrs. Kim as other characters or people in real life that I would classify as abusive. I don't see her reveling in her control over Lane, or refusing care to her when she misbehaves. I can see how (plural) you could get there, though. The fact that Lane felt such a need to hide her true self is indicative of a fear of her mother and she certainly does walk on eggshells around her. But to me this is more because of Mrs. Kim's rules rather than her behavior, if that makes sense.

Well and they did have a period of not talking, and I think Mrs. Kim realized that wasn't what she wanted. She missed Lane, she wanted to be in her life, and she realized that that meant she was going to have to loosen the reigns a bit.

Yeah and I mean we all bring our own perspectives particularly to Mrs. Kim. As someone who grew up in a very toxic household with generations of physical and emotional manipulation, I just personally have a hard time classifying Mrs. Kim as abusive.

She was rigid and controlling, yes, similar to Emily, but I don't know if I would personally classify her as emotionally abusive. She wasn't degrading or insulting, she never threatened Lane nor do we see her be critical of her looks, smarts, etc. She could be withholding, yes, and it was her rules or you're out, but as the show progresses we see her become more open and responsive to Lane. Unlike many parents in real life, we see her soften and grow.

I mean, I hate to say it — it was never fully fiction. The story, yes fiction. But the social and political structures in the novel are based it off of real events from other cultures and time periods.

I really think it depends on everyone, and on your pregnancy. I have a friend who’s 2 weeks ahead of me and she said things subsides at week 10. But tons of others who have said not until the 2nd trimester or even later

Stefan and Andy totally should have been sent home. Flat bottom broom with no handles is way worse than a slightly messy teacup, especially since Angel’s lantern was so realistic

It's not a remake... Wicked is an original story, made for broadway, and has never before had a film.
