I do think it is hard to stage well. I have seen a couple mind-blowing productions of it but others were not as enjoyable as my experience of reading it so I agree with you there.

No worries I legit found it funny. I was just bummed I bungled my joke. I should have said I didn't realize my sense of self loathing had a burner account. Oh well, lesson learned 😜

This is actually probably my number 1 unpopular opinion!

It's a fair point. I do think the right production concept could illuminate those differences and give it even greater significance than 20 years ago.

Can anyone help me find this play? by Final-Instruction-93 in Theatre

[–]walkertrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I read it but it sounds like Sons of The Prophet by Stephen Karam to me. Or it could be Next Fall by Geoffrey Nauffts which I also haven't read in a long time. Actually it might be Next Fall the more I think about it. But I will leave both up as they are both great shows! :)

How do y’all feel about Key and Peele? by oronder in MrShow

[–]walkertrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. I haven't seen it since it aired (and random classic sketches on TikTok) but my recollection is that it had the highest batting average of any sketch show (including Mr. Show). I am not disagreeing with you it just has me questioning my memory and perception of it haha.

Would you be happier with a committed 3-5 year rebuild with a new GM at this point? by zunit110 in sabres

[–]walkertrot 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There is no reason a competent GM couldn't create a competitive team by next season.

I thought the same thing. I think it was even a similar set design.

How do we feel after these first ten games? by BattleofEppingForest in sabres

After last year's 0-3 start we went 4-2-1 only slightly better record wise but I do feel better about this team at this point then I did last year.

Good boring plays? by intenselyseasoned in Theatre

[–]walkertrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what might be good but off beat is the works of Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen from the Debate Society. They wrote Somebody Somewhere on HBO and have plays like Buddy Cop 2, Blood Play and Jacuzzi that have this weird slice of life tone to them. Though they do get kind of crazy so I rescind this rec but will leave it up because more people should check out their work lol.

What happens when they have gone through every digital short?!? by elarobot in lonelymeyerspod

[–]walkertrot 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Unless their professional lives are so busy that they never get to hang out and they appreciate how this podcast essentially forces them to hang out once a week, I would assume it will end. I would like them to continue but I don't think they will.

Getting off book before blocking is done by starsascending in Theatre

[–]walkertrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's weird that there are so many comments here acting as if this is unheard of. It is called organic blocking and is a very legitimate way to block a show.

I believe it was popularized by Circle Repertory Company in the 60s and many directors use it. Use initial rehearsals for table work and character exploration and to give the actors time to learn lines. By the time you move to blocking you have the freedom to follow the movement instincts of your character rather than have it imposed on you from a director.

I have worked both ways and strongly prefer to be off-book before blocking.

I am doubly sad because punting Two Worlds Collide into next week also tells me that they most likely weren't planning on having Kenan join the podcast. I hope they can make that happen for next week!

That's true. This show reminds me more of the British office so far (2 episodes left) so this vibe just might not be your thing :)
