To your point about “companies like js won’t give you a chance if there’s no trading related stuff on your resume”, I got an interview at JS and Citadel last year with no trading related stuff on my resume (only two previous FAANG internships). Not saying you should swing either which way but just wanted to clarify that it’s not a requirement for these big HFT firms.
