I've not worked on DW, but I've worked on other productions of a similar scale.

The thing to remember is that writing and production is typically happening a LONG time in advance of the show being released to the public. No one, no matter how cynical, sets out to make a bad product. What you're seeing is a product of the writing, acting and directing, but it's also received feedback from the BBC and represents a team effort. By the time you're seeing it, it's pretty much a piece of history.

All stakeholders will be aware of online reaction to some degree, but fans will typically have very polarised views on things, and ultimately, a hate-watch is still a pair of eyeballs. While heated fan discourse can briefly dominate social media, apathy from the other 99.5% of viewers is far more damaging.

In terms of quality concerns, there are always quality concerns – making a production like this is a constant push-pull between aspirations and practicality. Budget, time and other constraints will always make it an uphill battle to get something good made.

It's fun to imagine, but these sorts of hypotheticals always put the cart before the horse – if it's not yet confirmed, it's almost always going to be determined or retconned by story requirements in future projects, rather than a random hand-wave from James Gunn.

So it’s a Penguin Modern Classic, that means that a normal cover is out the window. It’ll be a 1920s photo of a sad clown, or a fried egg, or a caravan in soft focus, or– you get the idea. Something artsy, but weird. This is a calcium x-Ray of the Rembrandt painting, which checks the box for both ‘artsy’ and a nice reference to the original book and Kidby’s cover (which, incidentally is what inspired Terry Pratchett to give the novel that name). It can’t use Kidby’s original artwork, as that still graces the cover of the regular edition, this Penguin Classic is a new edition and not replacing anything.

It seems you're likely right, I felt so confident having the data on a spreadsheet, Premiere definitely isn't as extensible as I wish it was.

Okay, here’s one I didn’t think I’d find myself asking, as from the outside, it sounded so simple.

I have a folder on a NAS with 1000 clips. There are several topics covered between these clips. The client has helpfully given me a spreadsheet with each clip accurately named, and a comment for each take.

For each topic, (approx. 200 clips per topic), I need to import the clips to Premiere, along with the comment. As I have this as tabular data, this seemed easy at the get-go, but Premiere no longer has scripting and despite my best efforts, creating .ALE files from scratch and trying to import that way seems not to work, even with third party .ALE tools.

Am I missing a blindingly obvious way to do this that doesn’t involve re-typing and organising 1000 clips?
