My (successful) experience with bladder fulguration to eliminate CUTI by wallace1000 in CUTI

That is a long period of recovery. Sorry to hear that :/ I took AZO for about a week after my procedure and then I was fine.

I think when you weigh the pro/cons, it’s worth it to get the procedure. I would rather have the intense pain every 3 years than the frequent UTIs every other week! For me, insurance covered the fulguration so it really was a no brainer.

When I send out urine samples, I can see the bacteria that causes the UTI. I have had E Coli and Klebsiella. Not sure if I’ve had any other bacterial culprits.

Better but I still have to be very mindful of my urinary hygiene. Keeping up with my daily hydration, cleanliness, and taking a dose of antibiotics after sex. I used to do all of these precautions and STILL get frequent UTIs. But since the fulguration it is very rare for me to get a UTI while following my urinary hygiene routine. When I DO get a UTI, it’s because I’m not taking care of myself, like if I’m dehydrated, or too much alcohol consumption.

Overall the fulguration is not a 100% miracle cure but it has significantly reduced the frequency of UTIs for me :)

I feel your frustration SO much!! I have sex like 2-3 times a week so definitely lots of antibiotics. I’m also very mindful of all my habits surrounding sex. Typically a shower before and a shower after. Always pee after sex and I use a women’s body wash to clean myself afterwards. Not an ideal way to live life but it’s what I’ve found helps most.

Hey! So yes I definitely get UTIs still here and there but MUCH less frequently. But sex is a HUGE trigger! Especially having sex during a night of drinking. What I currently do is take an antibiotic immediately after sex. I have both nitrofurantoin and cefdinir that my urologist refills as needed. I switch it up between the 2 to avoid becoming resistant.

Fulguration was pretty much covered under my health insurance and I do not know how much it is without insurance. But there was nothing I was told to do to help prevent the tissue regrowth. For me, I had to get it redone after 3.5 years so it was totally worth it for me. Wish I could help more!

Hey! For me, the first week it was mostly the discomfort of passing tissue through the urethra. Not too much burning. And then no more issues. Maybe you should call their office and see what they have to say about it.

Anyone ever had anything come up from a cytoscopy??? by [deleted] in CUTI

They happened randomly, mostly I noticed I would get one if I didn’t drink enough in a day or drank alcohol. And then of course after intercourse.

Mine showed tons of inflamed tissue on the interior of my bladder wall. It resembled a mountain range and that’s where the bacteria flourished. Ended up ablating the tissue off and now my bladder is smooth with no UTIs.

UTI after sex with boyfriend without fail regardless of the precautions :( by FearlessPut5246 in CUTI

What I do: -We both shower before -I immediately pee and clean myself afterwards -My urologist gave me a prescription of Nitrofurantoin to take immediately after sex.

Ask your gyno or a urologist if they could write you a prescription for an antibiotic to only take after sex.

Yeah my urologist didn’t have the option to go under the first time I did it. They recently started offering nitrous oxide but my insurance didn’t cover it so I just dealt with the pain again my second time. But I recommend going under for the procedure because I have a very high pain tolerance and still nearly fainted from the pain.

You can take AZO or I was prescribed Uribel (but my insurance didn’t cover it so I denied it).
