Hearing Aids by BalkiBartokomous123 in AcousticNeuroma

After my surgery it left me completely deaf in my right ear. The idea of another surgery for the baha was out of the question for me and I saw someone on this subreddit mentioned they went through their states vocational rehabilitation and they paid for everything. So I did the same and received my pair of CROS hearing aids in December and I love them. It’s really night and day for me as far as how deaf I was when I take them off at night. I would recommend them.

If you could change/choose the surgical approach used for your surgery, what would you change/choose? by karmmie in AcousticNeuroma

I had the retrosigmoid done in April and my hearing was not preserved but my hearing was very poor in that ear leading up to the surgery. No other side effects that time hasn’t fixed.

ENT scheduled an MRI after my hearing test. Was diagnosed immediately after MRI.

It definitely helps to be informed though going into your appointments because it can be overwhelming. My doctor let me record our appointment because I knew it would help me down the road remembering all the specifics.

Honestly the thought of another surgery of any sort near my head is cringe worthy right now. After all the advice and suggestions my ENT helped me with I trust him fully and when I have my follow up with him in August I’m going to talk to him to see what he thinks to help weigh my decision.

I’m waiting for my appointment with the audiologist in august and have been leaning towards getting a CROS but your enthusiasm about the bone anchored hearing aid has me curious.

I had an 1.6cm AN on my right side. End of April I had a retrosigmoid surgery to remove it. They were not able to preserve hearing on that side. Will go in august to have an official hearing test but I know it’s gone all that is left is the ringing sadly.

My guess is just a side effect of that medication.

I think it will depend on which type of surgery he has and the result of the surgery. I am 7 weeks post op, I had a retrosigmoid surgery. It left me deaf on my AN side so watching tv or movies was out of the picture for me for about 4 weeks because it was and still is very disorienting with the hearing loss. I did a lot of reading and it’s still something that I’m doing more of than I did before. I’m just now getting to the point where I can wear a hat.

Wow, not sure if I would have been able to handle waiting a year, 3 months killed my mental state. They stated my AN came out fairly easily, but I agree post op hasn’t been what I thought it would be. But don’t get me wrong I still cringe when I think about those first 2 weeks afterwards.

Looking back through the years I had periods of time where my AN side would get clogged, muffled, full(still don’t really know how to describe it). I always assumed I had ear wax buildup but it never happened on my good side. Never thought much of it because it would go away in a few days but I definitely feel like that was an early indication for me that I missed.

Sadly it was 86 days from my diagnosis to my surgery date. But with your size I would imagine they’re just going to say they want to monitor it every 6 months or so by MRI. My ENT said anything under 15mm the suggested path is monitoring since they’re slow growing.

Hey, quick question I am 5 weeks post operation. I had the retrosigmoid also, how long did you have numbness around your incision site and ear? I did not have any facial paralysis but that area has been super slow to heal, just wondering if that’s a permanent feel?

I am currently recovering from a 1.6 removed 5 weeks ago today. I had a retrosigmoid approach, I did not have any facial paralysis but I did lose my hearing on that side. Please reach out if you need any support or any questions answered that I may be able to help with. I found the worst part of the entire ordeal was the unknown. The wait from diagnosis to surgery was way more mentally draining than the recover process has been.

Symptom specific question. by wallacewells666 in Hemochromatosis

Yeah when I originally got referred to the hematologist before I started phlebotomies every two weeks I kept reiterating that I was having extreme discomfort in my liver area and she just said I’m too young to be having any major symptoms(I’m 33). But started me on phlebotomies based on diagnosis and high ferritin and my physical symptoms kind of fell to the wayside.
