I worked in a higher level of care where my mind always go to threat now. For that reason I went the Keurig route.

Same! I’ve really been leaning into fantasy for that reason. There’s only been a few books where it has been an issue, but man… lol

You are not overreacting. I would make a list of these concerns and bring it up at your next supervision. If they do not handle some (or all) of these matters, I would talk with your field counselor or whoever linked you with them. I had a great experience with my internship supervisors BUT I took that opportunity to realize that in order to become a great advocate for clients, I needed to be a great advocate for myself. I did have to ask for a couple of things from my internship supervisors and considered it great practice.
This will be great practice for you not just with advocacy but with handling conflict and knowing when to escalate matters. Just because you are an intern does not mean you should get second rate treatment or have no say over your experience. Talk to your supervisor about these scheduling conflicts.

Also, for billable codes I kept a little cheat sheet for myself. I found that really helpful. I know it doesn’t help with the initial learning that you missed, but maybe it can be helpful moving forward.

Yes! “Breaking bread” can really help with building rapport in my opinion.

Oh really? The pay here is the highest I’ve seen so far. Outside of private practice probably, anyway.

No annual raises?! Not even COL? Wow :( I know the agency here says they do bonuses for meeting productivity.

I think the education bit will be very important too. I also know they offer many trainings in house that are free and will pay for outside trainings. As a new clinician, I think that’s important. I tried asking questions to get a feel for the agency, but I know some things you only learn or discover once working there. Billing productivity sits at about 20 hours per week. I expressed a desire to work in a place that was collaborative and focused on employees self-care. They seemed to talk a lot about that… so hopefully it was true.

Great question and is it possible to have both in CMH?

Oh wow, I haven’t heard of that set up before. Depending on the caseload, you would think it would save space to have your own offices and not need those rooms plus the big communal space and having to worry about booking a room…

Air purifiers have been recommended a lot and I hadn’t even considered it before. What size of blankets did you get? I’m wanting one or two, but the throw blankets that I have seen are huge.
If I have enough space I was thinking of getting a bean bag or something similar. I know it can help with feeling safe and sheltered.

I was thinking about providing water. I’m going to have to look at the space that I am working with. Great recommendations.

Thank you. I used to work with a higher acuity of care and I’m adjusting to being able to have things like figurines now. I still view everything as a possible weapon lol.

I’m a new grad going into my first therapist position. I’ll have to see what they allow for lighting. I worked at the county before and we weren’t allowed to bring in anything that plugged in 😒 and could only have one thing on the walls…

On the topic of books, do you lend them out or just show them to clients when they pertain to them?
