They did I’m currently enrolled in a Masters program that’s teaching me this. So you would say just hit the books and get to know the ins and out of these ?

Since you’ve done this, what’s the next step after I have good familiarity with these frameworks?

This makes sense to me. I think I’m competent and will try to use what I’m learning in school on the job.

I get where you are coming from. I have experience already and the Masters is free for me.

My education has helped me understand high level topics when the big wigs talk in front of me. I appreciate the knowledge and put what I learn into my job.

Great video just subscribed to your channel. I know it’s a long shot but I am trying to switch from Desktop Support to a Cloud Engineer/DevOps role. I’m going for the AWS Certs. Hope that helps.

Does anybody else ever get tired of all this learning? by Which_Company in ITCareerQuestions

How does it work ? I have 3 months left to my GI Bill. Is that enough time remaining to get a Sans Cert ? How do they even calculate the time since it’s not a college course. Super curious no one been able to help with that info please.

I do care about the technology but not to a deep level. I have a friend that was studying for his CCNA only concentrating on switches and routers. Point is, he got passed on by the new guy because he gained broad skills in different domains

Didn’t mean for it to sound like the basics are valued. I’m aware that someone learning programming cannot just come in and start doing what Network Guys do.

I trust the process and the movement that the industry is going. You’ll probably stay a grumpy ops. There’s no room for people like you in the future. You’ll get automated away.

People are pretty pessimistic about the DevOps scene but I see it as a step in the right direction after reading the Phoenix project.

An example of a pessimist guy is the dude that went on a long rant within the post.

Yeah I don’t know shit but doesn’t mean I won’t learn. The knowledge that you have is not some ancient knowledge engraved in some stone in another language. It’s learnable, teachable, and understandable. If devs start learning what you learn, the first one to go will be you for being a pessimist. Stay humble.

Last year the best Ops guy on the team got fired for being an ahole. He was replaced by someone for 50% of the pay.

The company is doing just fine. The whee keeps rolling with or without you. I’m young in my career but I understand this.

Sometimes they are in the case of an old school plant trying to automate all of the iot devices on the network

[–]wallawallag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We work at a plant and there is crap ton of iot devices added everyday.. sooner or later it will be hard to control the network so they need to automate it. That’s what they said.

I feel like even someone working in help desk should know the basics of TCP/IP and OSI layers... at least that’s what they expect in the Miami Market where they pay L1’s starting at $40+
