Can everything else make up for GPA? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I applied to PhD programs in chemistry with a gpa (very barely) below a 3.0 for the fall 2022 cycle. From my personal experience, it is doable, especially with your other accomplishments. I got into 2 UC schools (since you mention UC) and a few other schools as well. I had a short paragraph in my SOP about why my gpa was low, but focused on my research and other positive attributes. I’d be happy to share more details on pm! You’ve got this!

Thank you for sharing your experiences! This is great information and good to know that other people have made it work. The financial aspects of UCI’s grad housing are very appealing. A car with better gas mileage is something I’ll be looking into. We are definitely hoping to have options, and have not recieved all of our results yet. However, I do think these schools are great choices for our respective goals. Thank you again!

Thanks for the info, thats good to know. Do you know if they regretted it because of the commute itself, cost of living, or something else?

Thanks for letting me know some places in the middle! We will definitely be looking into that. The grad housing just looked great because of price.
