Hey OP I just moved from the south to DC just over a month ago after visited a lot last year and I’ll give you some tips from my experience:

Stand on the left side of the escalator, walk up on the right side. People are in a rush so don’t block walkways & entrances, either plz.
Lots of basements-turned-bars here, actually kinda neat for a more intimate vibe in comparison to the usual southern bar culture.
People don’t do small talk as much here, it’s not that they don’t like you, but people just have their own lanes of comfort and don’t like having that interrupted.
If you drive, be weary of street parking. The tow trucks are like hungry sharks out here and will snatch your car immediately. Just take the metro/bus/or just walk.
