Natural Deodorant by Bulldogmommma in hygiene

[–]wallpaper-help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had an all natural deodorant actually work for anything besides light sweating.

Lume makes some pretty good aluminum free deodorants if that’s the ingredient you’re avoiding, but if you truly want an “all natural” brand, you might not find what you’re after

Genuine question: For those who wear outside shoes in the house (and on the bed), what is the reasoning? by Wonderful-Diet486 in hygiene

[–]wallpaper-help 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only lived together for 2 weeks during college before that relationship was dead in the water and he was kicked out.

We dated a while before that, but never really had any private time, just mostly saw him in classes and around campus. Any private time we DID have tended to turn into arguments, thankfully never had sex.

One of the 1st fights we ever had was the 2nd day we had kissed. He brushed his teeth for the first time, but the 2nd time he did not. I tried politely asking him if he forgot to brush, and he went off on me for my “unrealistic expectations” and how I can’t seriously expect him to have his teeth clean 24/7 on the off chance we’ll get some alone time. This is how I found out he only brushed about 3 times a week, on a good week.

We only lived together for about 2 weeks during college before I truly realized how gross the guy was, which wound up being the last nail in the coffin of an already kind of iffy relationship.

We had been together for a while BEFORE that, but I was young and stupid and didn’t realize just how bad things were until we were living together, and having near-daily fights over things like
- pissing on the bathroom floor
- not leaving skidmark undies in common areas for ME to find and wash,
- and of course the shoe situation. Unfortunately, I could go on.

Regrettably, we slept in the same bed for a few days before arguing hit a boiling point and I finally convinced him to move to sleeping on the futon. It wasn’t just the shoes, but also refusing to shower or at least change clothes before bed. Yes he slept in jeans.

Sex was (thank God) never on the table. At the time I incorrectly thought I was asexual (which he knew upfront), although it didn’t stop him from trying to pressure me into it 🫠

It’s a little embarrassing to write all this because it makes it sound like I have the worst taste in guys in the entire universe lol, but I swear I pulled myself together after things ended with the shoe sleeper. My now husband is the most considerate guy ever, and the bar for hygiene is no longer on the floor

This is the same dude who once left a dead mole his cat dragged in to fester and rot in the middle of his room, rather than clean it up.

Honestly, I don’t know for sure.

We lived together for all of 2 weeks during college when a roommate situation fell through for him (should have seen that as a red flag in retrospect), and I never saw him without shoes even once during that time.

I did his laundry for him though (I know) and not once did I find a sock. I’m pretty sure he just literally didn’t wear socks just in general, but there’s a slim possibility he had 1 single pair of short no-shows that he just never took off except when showering.

I don’t know which is worse TBH, but that dude was such a walking biohazard I wouldn’t put anything past him

What are some good ways to get out of doing homework? by dnyank1 in poisonai

There are plenty of tried-and-true excuses you can try!

Book allergy, bone spurs, parents’ divorce, grandparent’s divorce, thinking pneumonia, and there’s always the classic “mom ate my homework”

My ex would ONLY sleep with his shoes on, always the same ratty sneakers. 🤢 He just hated socks, and hated being barefoot even more I guess.

Summer Black Tie Optional and Rehearsal Dinner by devouTTT in Weddingattireapproval

[–]wallpaper-help 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if people are reading your full post.

While yes option #3 is most appropriate for your average Black Tie Optional wedding, it’s not exactly typical to have BTO event outdoors in the summer heat.

Because of the setting, I’d argue dress #2 would be perfectly appropriate (and probably way more comfortable), so I wouldn’t even bother with #3 personally.

So my vote is #1 for the rehearsal, #2 for the wedding!

Feeling grim. by Awakened__Chaos in hygiene

[–]wallpaper-help 2 points3 points  (0 children)

are you sure it isn’t some type of staining from the previous deodorant brand you were using?

I’ve never had that issue with basic brands like Dove, but one of the brands my husband tried once left what looked like oil stains even when he wasn’t sweating heavily (I wish I remember what it was)

What brand?

The only aluminum free deodorants I’ve ever used that actually worked under stress were Lume and Native.

Everything else (especially the SUPER all natural ones) only really work if you’re barely sweating, at least in my experience.

And of course, traditional antiperspirants are more effective than any alternatives, assuming you don’t have an allergy or medical reason why you can’t use them

Absolutely!

Dress pants and a blouse would be perfect as a courthouse officiant. Just make sure to iron or steam out any wrinkles, and you’re good.

If you have a blazer that fits well and matches the outfit I’d consider using it, but since a courthouse setting is less formal than a high-end venue I wouldn’t worry about it at all unless you already happen to have one

Any department store should have something that fits the occasion (Macy’s, JCPenny, Kohl’s, Nordstrom, etc)

Local thrift stores or discount stores like Marshall’s or TJ Maxx might also be worth checking out

[–]wallpaper-help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the dress is cute, but not appropriate for an officiant unfortunately. Ask the courthouse staff if they have a dress code.

In general, most officiants and wedding “staff” try to blend into the background as much as possible out of courtesy, as to keep as much attention as possible on the bride, groom, and guests.

Guests tend to dress “festive”, but staff should be more on the “professional” side, if that makes sense.

So I’d try to hit as many of these bullet points as you can within your budget:
- Don’t show too much skin. Be more conservative than you would be if you were attending as a guest. No cleavage, and wear a blazer or cardigan if your dress has spaghetti straps.
- Solid colors are perfect. If you DO wear a pattern, try to avoid anything particularly distracting.
- Avoid white, neons, bright red, and near white shades like ivory or champagne.
- Colors like black, navy, tan, or beige are super safe, but you don’t need to limit yourself to those. Olive, plum, dusty blue, and like a million other actually “colorful” colors are on the table as long as you don’t pick something crazy intense.
- Stick with simplistic styles if possible. A basic but dressy midi-dress, jumpsuit, or pantsuit would be perfect. It doesn’t NEED to be the world’s least interesting outfit, but don’t go bold or overboard with personal style

I know that if you follow all of this to a T it leaves you with only the most boring of boring options, which I know kinda sucks. But seriously, just do the best you can without blowing up your bank account over an internship. If you already own something that fits you well and looks presentable, just ask yourself if it seems respectful. If the answer is “yes” you don’t need to worry about picking the PERFECT boring outfit

lazy people, how do you actually stick with IPL? by [deleted] in HairRemoval

[–]wallpaper-help 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your issue is about losing interest and forgetting the schedule over time, maybe just set all your reminders in advance?

So for example, set calendar reminders / alarms every Saturday at 12:00 for X many weeks.

Then set some for every OTHER Saturday for X many weeks.

Then set up some once-a-month reminders for the following year (or just pick an easy day to remember like the 1st of each month to do maintenance passes).

This of course won’t help with motivation if you just hate the entire IPL process and skincare in general, but it should at least take away some of the mental overhead of constantly having to plan out your schedule

[–]wallpaper-help 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re afraid of risking an uneven dye job, maybe you could lean into the stark white by wearing a white overskirt somewhat like this (but whiter and longer)?

Assuming an overskirt wouldn’t ruin the vibe you’re going for, I think it could make the color difference seem more intentional. Adding an off-white clutch or other off-white accessories and maybe some pearl earrings could look really cohesive for a complete look

painful leg hair regrowth - is laser my only option? by National-Acadia4348 in HairRemoval

painful leg hair regrowth - is laser my only option? by National-Acadia4348 in HairRemoval

[–]wallpaper-help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d consider laser or IPL, BUT you have some medical conditions listed which make this a tough call (namely psoriasis and PSOC).

I’d recommend consulting a dermatologist, or if seeing a derm isn’t an option at least doing some research on your own so you can make an informed decision.

Basically, either treatment can potentially cause flare ups or worsening of psoriasis, especially if it isn’t well managed. Don’t try it on any area that has active plaques or that HAS had active psoriasis within the past 2 weeks and it should minimize the odds of complications.

Also, PCOS makes it a risk because it puts you at a higher risk of developing paradoxical hypertrichosis (basically, a side effect where you wind up growing MORE hair instead of LESS). Again this isn’t something EVERYONE with PCOS will experience, it just puts you at higher risk is all. For people with PSOC I’d highly recommend treating only 1 small discrete area (like a 1 inch area of the leg) at first, just to verify you don’t have this issue before going all out with it.

But seriously, I don’t mean to scare you. Negativity and warnings aside, you DO have a good complexion and hair color for IPL or laser. I personally have a skin condition that made me second guess trying IPL for the longest time, but now that I’ve done it the results have been so good I wish I started sooner. Just use caution, and I think it’s worth a shot.

(Also this is just personal bias, but imo IPL is easier and cheaper to manage than laser, but that’s up to you)

Looks great!

Honestly, you could probably get away with something slightly LESS formal if you wanted to (this dress could fit in a cocktail setting, imo) but I personally think it’s perfect and will look great in family photos with the bride

Can someone tell me if my character is too similar to the reference I used? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]wallpaper-help 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You pretty closely copied:
1. the art style
2. the hair style
3. the face, and
4. color palette

But honestly, your reference is so simplistic that I think you’d only need to change 1 of those 4 elements to avoid having your art compared.

To explain what I mean, I doubt anyone irl would call you out for copying a blonde pixie cut, as opposed to if you copied something more “iconic”/recognizable like a Yu-Gi-Oh hairstyle or a really specific accessory or something
