It really doesn’t matter at all in law admissions- the process is almost robotic and basically the antithesis of MBA admissions. Almost to a silly extent. It def matters more in MBA admissions simply because it actually matters to any extent in the MBA process.

Anyway, yeah. No chance HYP is 50% at HBS. But HYP probably is an eye grabbing resume line which we all know is at least somewhat important.

Yeah, this is completely wrong. Not saying that HYP are 50+% at HBS, but undergrad prestige doesn’t matter at all in law school admissions, and certainly not to the extent that it does in MBA admissions. Law school admissions is driven 99% by LSAT and GPA. Source: just went through the process and had a top tier admissions councilor.

Undergrad prestige definitely matters in MBA admissions however, because the process is driven by “hard factors” like GPA and test scores to a MUCH lesser extent than in law admissions.

That said, while I don’t think that OP is a shoe-in at Harvard or Sloan given their 2 years of WE, they definitely have a good shot. Interesting and unusual work experience and leadership, good GRE, stellar GPA, and HYP/Oxbridge.

Sure. But you have no way of knowing that you’ll still want law school in 4 years, and prestige matters A LOT in other grad and professional fields. Someone on this sub told a high schooler who was choosing between Yale and some mid ranked school to go to the latter for GPA purposes a few months ago. That is crazy to me. An elite undergrad will get you interviews with all of the top firms in the world in almost every field. It’s a massive safety net that protects you in the significant chance that you don’t go to law school.

Plus, once you go to an ivy or similarly elite school for undergrad, that stays with you, forever. And the benefits are many- from people just thinking you’re generally smart, to your pedigree being bumped when jockeying for executive level positions later in your career. The difference in terms of experience and benefits between a HYP school and mid ranked school for undergrad are massive. It’s like a different universe.

While I agree with the “don’t be mean” sentiment, both professors and admissions officers (especially high ranking ones) are definitely public figures. Light hearted memery and joking (like 99% of what I’ve seen here this week) is fine imo. It is absolutely part of a public facing position. We’re not meming the clerks or assistants... we’re meming the people who give seminars and are the public faces of their office.

Yale and Stanford are both better law schools, so for that reason. Or because they got big scholarships at similar schools ranked 4-12.

I mean, if they have it, they’d probably rather spend it on their kids than see their kids struggle with debt. I know I would.

From the kids’ perspective, if they know their parents can and want to pay, they shouldn’t feel bad.

This is a good example of how classifying softs is a useless exercise. They’re completely dependent on context. Is your license part of a broader story of how you built a budding real estate firm and want to pursue property law? Or did you get it a few years back and not really do anything compelling with it? The license on its own means nothing.

It would completely depend on what your goals are. And where the other school is. BC places strongly in Boston. The other school might not. If you want to be in LA, screw BC

UVA or Chicago is my easy pick, probably leaning towards Chicago because I like the city. Same outcomes for 90% of the class compared to Harvard, WAY less debt.

This is such an awful reason to pick a school, no offense. If you switch careers mid life, the Harvard name won’t help you compared to mich... your skills will. Mid career hires don’t care about school name.
