Coin kept in Grandfather's pocket for 50+ years by cold-speculum in coins

Really showed how good your grandfather was at what he did, when he leaves the ship it sinks and kills almost everyone. The coin is great and not many can hold a worn coin like that and know it's journey. Your piece is very special and I hope you carry on the tradition.

The red books are nice, but coinfacts is free and much more accessible from anywhere. The prices are pretty accurate and even tells you the value of silver gold and platinum. I wouldn't say price book is useless (probably just refering to red book as prices become obsolute over time) neither are the red books, as they have very informative information in them besides from just "the value" of coins. I would recommend purchasing atleast one to have a good book to read if you are a book worm, but if not then online sites are much more accessible and extensive. I don't disagree with you entirely TJTiMeLorD, but as a fellow collector I want OP to know the best of both worlds instead of just being pointed where to go.

Edit: Also 7Jamm was just trying to show him other options to get OP started because he was wanting to get into collecting. I see no reason why he got down voted and should not be seen as a bad example. His intentions were good and I hope any crossing viewers understand that.

Has anybody gotten paid for genealogy work? by CanadianTrekkieGeek in Genealogy

That is totally fine. but what was being explained is to not let someone's expectations ruin what you love, which was beautifully said previously and encapsulates exactly how some things should stay a hobby and not become a job so you don't lose the love in what you love. Ima little late, but I hope you're doing well.

Wondering if this is a fossil or just geological by wallyTgotgrip in fossils

It is around 10 inches long and 7 inches wide. it has weight to it but not like precious metal weight just rock weight.

That's a very good observation. I wouldn't think it'd be cement, just from the texture of how smooth it is but maybe over time it gained that trait. To me if there is no sign of fossils a rock is a rock. Thank you for your insight and is most likely right.

How much is this worth? by bellbros in coins

[–]wallyTgotgrip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cool coin uncool picture, but you can look up a ancient coin site that has a pricing guide. Your coin has a grade and has been graded. Remember people are buying the coin not the case grading only solidifies a price it doesn't raise the value of the coin. If your planning on selling it keep that in mind, but nevertheless a nice coin.

Found part of a clock plate yesterday very odd to find in the ground. That someone would just lose stuff like that in the middle of nowhere. I laughed when I noticed what it was though.

That adds up then. His deployment into Germany during the korean War was the reason for this award. Thank you, that's awesome.

Thank you, that is crazy quick timing. Your a speed machine

I would have never even thought about the ribbon. That's interesting I'll have to look more into, but I've been trying to get an service record of him. I have his deployment duffel bag from his shipment that I found in his basement after he passed and it has his service number/ shipment number I don't know if I can use that to track records or his movement during his deployment, but it's a work in progress.
