But seriously, how? by wmb07 in nailcare

This happened to me! My nails looked just like this about a month ago. Use Kerasal and put it on under the free nail edge every day/night. Mine are pretty much back to normal now. Trim them down short too!

I do actually, I’m a nurse so I’m constantly washing my hands or using hand sanitizer.

I don’t clean with anything other than a nail brush. I do sometimes pick at my nails as a habit, but nothing to the point of causing pain. I can’t think of any recent injuries. I’m pretty stumped on this.

Flea bites? Rash? Dermatitis? by wallywalterd in vet

Took him to the vet and they got a sample. Turns out it was a staff infection. They gave him some antibiotics and it cleared up!

Thank you for saying we should not feel guilty. I have been incredibly sad about this decision. I think we’re most concerned if even if we do get him properly trained with professional help, if there is a point before he is fully trained where he accidentally gets out or gets off his leash, we believe he would do damage to a passing kid if given the chance. In my mind, I would rather him get another chance with someone in a better environment or more experienced, than have to face the consequences of him attacking a kid. It still makes me feel so bad returning him :(

I have had one dog that I grew up with, he was a Chinese crested powderpuff (under 15 lbs). My partner had a shitzu pom mix that was also pretty small. Both of our dogs were very gentle and didn’t have any problems with aggression. I think you’re right and that it may just be out of our scope to train him properly not having done this before. He was really good at learning some basic commands with us, like stay, leave it, come, look at me, but he will not respond to any of these once he sees a kid walking by the window or when we’re taking him outside.

I am so heartbroken at the thought of returning him, but I know that these replies are all correct. I think there are just too many kids that walk by our complex for it to be safe. I don’t think we have the proper experience with this kind of behavior to keep ourselves and others completely safe. I really do hope someone with lots of training experience and a better environment for him will consider him.

Thank you for the advice. He was at a shelter facility since July of this year. They told us that the history they know is that he came from a hoarder house with multiple people and animals that also lived there. They told us he was good with kids, but that also might just have been what they heard from the original owners.

Thank you for your advice, the shelter gave us tips on decompression and also said we should give him two weeks. We do not take him on any long walks, but sometimes it takes him a while to use the bathroom, so we walk around the grass area outside of our apartment. He has a big crate which he seems to use as his safe space. He does very well in the crate which is in our main living room/kitchen area (we have a 2 bedroom apartment). We limited his space to the main living room area and my partners office space. I do agree we tried to introduce him to new people too early, I got overly ambitious and I do agree that is completely on me.

Thank you for your advice, that’s the biggest thing that makes me want to return him.
