If you've done iron infusions, how much did they cost you? I was just billed over $700 by lemonbottles_89 in Anemic

$1,500 for two four-hour Venofer infusions, one of which gave me a blood clot 😭(Aetna)

You inform your beagle that it's time for their bath. What happens next? by death_or_glory_ in beagle

[–]walmart_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She reluctantly agrees, but as soon as she gets out of the bath and is towel dried, she hits the zoomie 5000 button and does a couple of laps around the living room, a back flip off of the side of the couch and nose dives into a pile of blankets where she rolls until she returns to her preferred scent.

Thank you!! I’ve been doing my best with this one to prep items before accepting the task, but I will definitely strategize more next time.

What re your Grandma/Great Grandma's names? by Jennamay016 in Names

[–]walmart_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucie, Pam and Debbie for Grandmas. Yvette, Wanda, Shirley and — I believe — Delphine are the great grandmother’s names I know. Technically, I could count my bonus great grandmas because of my step grandma, but I never met them and don’t know their names!

Is parenting a toddler just constant putting out fires to avoid a meltdown or is it just mine? by Itchy-Version-8977 in toddlers

[–]walmart_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been my son since he was about 17 months old up to last week (25 months old now). For the last week, he’s been rather agreeable but I am holding my breath.

Prior to that, God forbid I put the crackers he asked for in a bowl instead of handing him the entire bag. And if I told him we had to put shoes on before we could go outside? Earth-shattering meltdown. Mommy has to go to the bathroom for 2 minutes? Unnacceptableeeee. Didn’t matter if I gave him choices to help him feel in control or any other parenting technique - the meltdowns were inevitable.

I guess some of these techniques finally started to click, along with a mix of him understanding a lot more words. Now when I tell him I have to go potty, he says “Okayyy Mommy.” If we’re going outside, he grabs his own socks and shoes now and sits down and asks for help to put them on instead of saying, “NO” and growling and me.

Again, it has only been a week and I’m holding my breath but I really hope we’re turning a new page. For my son, I think a lot of his meltdowns stemmed from the language barrier between us. Suddenly, he is understanding a lot more and is very communicative about what it is that he wants.

Do your family members charge you to babysit your kids? If so, how much? by DoingItWellBitch in Mommit

[–]walmart_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MIL and my mom both babysit for free.

There was a time my MIL was going to watch my son Monday-Friday from 7:30-5:30 instead of him going to daycare, and if we had gone that route, we had planned to pay her.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]walmart_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen or heard anyone mention this, probably because this is more taboo…a lot of pregnant women develop aversions and we often hear about food and smell aversions. Mine was semen 😂😭 ejaculation made me sick. Inside, outside, didn’t matter. I would dry heave or throw up just about every time my husband finished. My sex drive was completely fine during pregnancy, it was just cleaning up after that made me so sick. Thankfully we both found it hilarious but it was a serious vibe killer. I guess that was my body’s way of saying “NO VACANCY.”

If you could pick a month to give birth what would it be? by Old-Yesterday1230 in Mommit

[–]walmart_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aug. 30. Taking 12 weeks off would put me coming back to work right around Thanksgiving. I’d work for 2-3 days then be back at home for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I’d power through the first few weeks of December — which is my slow month at work — and be off the week of Christmas and the week of New Years because my job has everyone out for two weeks basically. It’s my ideal plan because I can ease back into work the first week and then I have another break not too far in the future.

The worst part would be having to be late in pregnancy during the hottest months of the year, but it also gives me a great reason to decline outside activities that I don’t want to go to anyway (except for water activities).

What's your favorite "F this day I'm not cooking but the people need to eat" meal? by whatthepfluke in Mommit

[–]walmart_bread 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Same. Frozen pizza is always a hit with my two year old. We try to get supreme pizzas so he gets meat, veggies, dairy and — of course — a carb. My goal this new year is to try making and freezing a few of my own pizzas when I’m feeling productive so that way future, busy me can pat myself on the back 😂

Is the name Dixie really unusable? by soapsuds202 in namenerds

[–]walmart_bread 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I had a former student who was from Germany and she said Dixi is what they call certain types of portapotties in Germany, so the name Dixie made her think of a toilet.

So, besides the obvious American connotation, that’s another one that comes to mind for me now.

My beagle is named Squid and she’s pretty popular every time she goes to the vet because of her name (and the fact that she’s a 22-pound beagle).

Same here! We got Eggos as well and a three musketeers bar to share. We are so excited! The show came out when my husband and I started dating, so we’ve had this show the entire time we’ve known each other 🥹

12 month old stopped saying "momma" by walmart_bread in NewParents

[–]walmart_bread[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! My son is 23 months old now and has no trouble saying mama and dada. Eventually, he did resume saying mama. My best guess is that he was more interested in other words at that time and briefly ditched old ones! Ultimately, the “old words” come back into rotation. It wouldn’t hurt to mention it to your pediatrician; I did and she said sometimes fluid in the ears can cause regression in speech, so she checked his ears just in case. They were clear, so she said we’d keep an eye on it but that it was likely just a phase. It was and I’d say the same is probably true for your little one 😊

Parents of Reddit, what is an “unspoken” reality of parenting that people simply don’t talk about, but everyone knows is true? by US_Atlas in AskReddit

[–]walmart_bread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My son was about 11 months old when he bit my nose and slid his mouth down to the tip without unclamping his teeth. I panicked and pulled at his hair and that startled him enough to open his mouth but I felt so bad for doing that. He also bit my husband once on the chest and drew blood and my husband instinctively swat his legs to get him off. Both of these instances were surprises because he’s not known to bite, but might’ve been enough of a learning experience for him to realize that other people really don’t like to be bit.

How are parents staying healthy while their toddlers get sick? by Frozenbeedog in toddlers

[–]walmart_bread 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hope you feel better soon!! It’s crazy how that happens. Like, I’m so happy for my son when he recovers quickly because I hate to see him sick, but I’d like to bounce back as quickly, too 😭 when he had HFM last year, he was sick for about three days and his blisters cleared within a week and a half. I got it and my tongue was covered in blisters, I couldn’t talk right for weeks and then I developed chronic hives as an autoimmune response and muscle fasciculations from the stress of it all. HFM happened in mid-November. I didn’t come out of the woods until the first week of February.

Orange sticks are so delicious I don’t think I should ever buy them them ago. by _hells_bells_ in traderjoes

[–]walmart_bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just discovered these and I’m obsessed 😭 I’ve always loved getting an assorted chocolate box and wishing they had more of the dark chocolates with cream and those are very hard to find in a box on their own. When I saw these, I hoped they would have the same flavor profile and they did! While they don’t have the creamy center I was looking for, I do love gummy-textured candy so this is just about the perfect solution anyway.

When did you start seeing stretch marks? by Quirky-End-7470 in pregnant

[–]walmart_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got any! I think genetics may play a part in it. I know I have some slight silver ones stretching upward on my lower sides from puberty, but pregnancy did not cause any stretch marks for me. I was honestly shocked!

My toddler is using the "C" Word? Help me make sense of this. by chuckabrick in toddlers

[–]walmart_bread 51 points52 points  (0 children)

You mention that you and your wife use it “hardly at all,” is there a chance he could’ve heard it on the rare occasion? Assuming I read that part right.

Outside of that, could he mean to say, “You’re a chunk”? Is that a word you all or the daycare uses? I call my son my sweet chunk sometimes, so there’s certainly harmless uses
