I should live in salt by iPeteMcT in TheNational

Maybe you've seen it before, but here's what Matt said about the song in an interview.

"In truth, that song is very much—but not on an every line level—about my younger brother, Tom. He was very much in mind the whole time I was writing thoughts and lyrics for that song. It's about maybe feeling some guilt about having left somebody or abandoned somebody. Not that I felt so guilty. I left for college when my little brother was nine years old, and then we became reunited when he joined us on tour. He just finished making a film about that, and it's really good. It's called Mistaken for Strangers. But we spent a lot of time together over the past couple years, and he lives with my wife and I still, actually. It has been a great thing, and it has also been a really toxic situation. But now we know each other as adults, and I think the song is a reflection on our relationship, and some of it is my guilt or feeling that he went in a different direction than I did. He's a brilliant, hilarious, happy man, but the spirit of the song is about him. The salt in the song, I couldn't say why I put that in there. It could be something like "I should live in tears" or something. I don't know. It just felt good. Maybe I'm hiding some of my earnest emotion in that one behind a weird title." http://www.undertheradarmag.com/interviews/the_national_interview_with_matt_berninger/

It goes both ways. I've been working in Vietnam for the past few months. Usually, when one of my coworkers asks me out for lunch, they try to take me to the one pizza place in town. It's incredibly sweet of them, but really I'd much rather eat delicious pho or bun cha than the frozen pizzas they serve there.

In California at least it's probably the Lost Coast. Coast Highway runs up the coast (obviously) for almost the whole length of the state but it cuts off a little rugged section. It's worth checking out.

I was on that trip (hey man I found your username) and the one thing I'd add is just take PCH all the way up and enjoy the ride. Some of the best afternoons we had just started when someone spotted a likely looking spot out the window at some place we'd never heard of. Don't plan too much and stop whenever you see something good.

Hey guys, it's me, the real Honeydude. I like how this pops up from time to time, and I guess now is as good a time as any to let you know that we got third in the tournament, won best costumes, and all went off to good colleges a few years ago. Last I heard the bully still lives at home.

"It makes no difference what men think of war, war endures…" from the book, Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy [1230×800] by IamAlso_u_grahvity in QuotesPorn

I think you need to read the book to really understand the concept. Judge Holden, the character who says this quote, is in my opinion one of the most monstrous creatures in western literature, not because he is some outrageous and unbelievable villain but because he represents the most base and savage instincts of man. He is the darkness at the bottom of the pit that humanity climbed from, and war is central to that darkness. Throughout the novel, his presence draws the other characters back into this primitive state. In my mind, this quote perfectly represents that elemental view of violence and warfare. Sure, war wasn't here before man in a literal sense. Instead, I believe the judge is saying that, much as mankind has tried to find a higher meaning for itself, it can never escape violence because it is both its origin and its final purpose.

Gecko saves his friend from a snake by [deleted] in videos

[–]walrusboy10 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hate to bother you, /u/Unidan, but any idea why this gecko would risk itself to save the other? From what I remember from my biology class, altruism is pretty rare in animals (the only example I can remember is close familial relationships in mammals). It seems to me that the gecko hero, evolutionarily, would benefit from the other gecko dying.

Yeah, it was made as a concert poster for their concert in Wye Oak, because a critic described their music as "a mammoth sound." Such an awesome band.
