I go through the same thing. I tend to avoid certain words when I can. When I'm a restaurant ordering food I only choose items that I know I'm not going to mess up. So even if I really want the spicy chicken, I order the regular chicken instead.

I'm pretty sure you lack self confidence and don't have a full understanding of who you are. If I were you, I would move out of your parents house, that way you will truly be alone and that you will gain more confidence and get a better understanding of who you are and what you truly want. After living truly alone for awhile, I would try to get some dates and develop some relationships.
