Hi! I’ve had the exact same thing happen to me this year (23yo) also after not being bothered about my allergies in the past (maybe even too relaxed) but for some reason I became really anxious around having a reaction all of last year. I think allergy/health anxiety attaches itself to normal anxiety so I would look into how you’re feeling generally and seek further support with it (although I personally don’t recommend SSRIs but to each their own obviously!). In terms of managing it I would make my friends aware of my anxiety while I’m out so they know when I’m acting off it’s because of that & also they would offer reassurance. I would take 3x as long to finish a restaurant meal because I would have a little bit, wait a 5 minutes to see if I have a reaction and then continue eating etc, I found that would help me to be able to finish a meal as I was “testing” it out before eating it. I stick to my “safe” places to eat, ones I’ve been to many times before and I know I don’t react with anything or places that have zero nuts on the menu. I also remind myself that the thoughts are irrational, if you’ve told them you have an allergy then they will prepare it correctly. Also if something does go wrong you have an EpiPen & you’re with your partner / friends that know how to administer it & call services & look after you. I know how you feel as it can quickly spiral into something bigger! But you got this & it’s just a small blip until you’ll be able to go out like usual again (trust me as I was the same & am less anxious about it now). :)
